Lookin to upgrade the 5.25" car speakers in our old volvo station wagon. There's 4 of em (in the doors), and I don't want to spend too much. The deck is a 2 year old kenwood cd player. Any suggestions appreciated.

When they come to get your GUNS, make sure to give them the AMMO first!!!

My past experience is that you can't go wrong with anything made by Boston Acoustics. You can find reasonably priced sets at Ultimate Electronics or other car stereo dealers. Pioneer can get you by. Don't buy anthing made by Alpine. They make good audio equipment, but there automotive speakers are junk. Everyone I know that has owned a set has had them go bad. Myself included.

The best cheap car speakers I have heard is Blaupunkt. The PCX series is around $19.99 a pair and they are a supreme upgrade from stock speakers, check out www.crutchfield.com they run specials but the Blaupunkts are good and cheap.

One thing I kept in mind when building my system was to not get caught in getting what everybody else had. In other words, don't buy it because it's the "popular brand". In my ears eye, there are a lot of speakers out there that sound a he!! of a lot better than the bigger names(rockford, alpine, etc.), and they don't cost near as much. Myself, and some friends, all have fairly large and elaborate systems in our vehicles, and I've only spent a fraction of what they did. Currently I'm running Cadence subs with Boston Accoustic mids and tweeters all powered with Pyramid amps. It's a far cry from a "team Gates"( anybody who knows car stereo even a little knows this name), but it can hold its' own. My suggestion..take the time to go to listen to a few different brands, decide which sounds best to you, and then make your choice. Happy listening.[:)][:)]

Ok, I've been to Mexico and back (Walmart here in Kalifornia) and they only had 2 choices:
    Pioneer TS-G1347 120W 5.25" 2 Way Pair for 37.84
    Or Sony XS-R1311 160W 5.25" 3 Way Pair for 49.96

    Help!

DO NOT GET PIONEERS! Let me say from experience that they have decent highs, but terrible bass without a tight sealed enclosure, and a door is not a tight sealed enclosure. Cerwin Vega car speakers sound very good to my ears, and like someone else said, Boston, which is a little more high end. I think the best bang for the buck would have to be Infinity Kappas, which can be found at www.justcarspeakers.com for a good price. I've ordered from these guys a few times and they are good. But yeah, my friend has Kappa 6.5" coaxes in his civic and they sound very good.

I had a pair of Sony X-Plod 3-way 160 Watt speakers in my pickup with a cheap 300-watt amp that I got new off of Ebay for $40.00. It filled the cab of my pickup with lots of good sound. I think I paid around $60.00 for the pair.
