If not for their absurd restrictions on firearm possession these people may have had a chance

Home Invasion Robbery Turns Deadly

ENGLEWOOD, N.J., 10:22 a.m. EDT June 26, 2002 - An elderly man was killed early Wednesday in an apparent home invasion robbery, and police reportedly had one person in custody and were searching for two other suspects.

Details about the robbery at the North Woodland Avenue home were not immediately available, but NewsChannel 4 has learned that the victim was a 70-year-old man.
Sources said the victim and his wife were in the home when the armed suspects broke in around midnight, but the woman was not hurt. The suspects then fled in a van, but a passer-by followed the vehicle and alerted police.

One man was arrested when police stopped the van in Tenafly, and a New York Police Department helicopter was called in to help search the area for the other two suspects.

Englewood police declined to comment and referred all calls to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, who did not immediately return telephone messages.

Last year, only a few city blocks from my home, three thugs broke into an elderly mans home to rob him for drug money. They used duck tape to tape the old man to a chair and beat him to death with a frying pan and a meat tenderiser and the old mans own cane. The police did catch all three but they are still awaiting trial. If the old man would have had a gun he could have defended himself.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

    Josey,
It's pretty tough being a (legal) gun owner here in NJ.
Recently we've had a rash of shootings done by members of
the law enforcement community. The most recent was in April
2002 when a Seaside Heights police officer killed 5 innocent
people and wounded a 6th using his department issued sub machine
gun (an MP5 variant), that he was allowed to keep with him at all
times. He was reportedly mad at some of his neighbors so he shot
and killed them with his issued MP5 and then killed himself with
his issued sidearm. The firearms were left unattended from the
time of his death till police responded the following morning
(see press of Atlantic City April 10 -16 2002). Fortunately for
us, we are allowed to bear arms while on our property, home,
domicile, business, etc, etc. The problem here in NJ is that
private gun ownership is frowned upon and the average person does
not know that they have a right to protect themselves while on
their property, in fact, home is one of the few places where a
NJ resident can carry a concealed handgun with no permit whatsoever.
This is not widely known but is in fact, the law here in NJ.
I only wish that more of my fellow New Jerseyans would become
    responsible gun owners.

Hey Jo-Dan...where are you at in Jersey? I grew up in Brick and my sister is still there.I go up there to visit about once a year.I have been down here in S.E.Alabama for 24 years now,and cannot imagine going back there to live.I have more personal freedom (gun ownership)here.Had not heard about the Seaside incident until just now.Used to be one of my favorite places when I was a kid.Took my son there on my last visit too.I bet the liberal press had a field day because of one nut-case!Anyhow,glad to meet you here.

Little people talk about people, regular people talk about things, and big people talk about ideas.

    Bushy,
I live in south Jersey, it's a nice area and the people are
pretty nice for the most part. The hunting is good and the
fishing is usually excellent. We even have a small gun show
twice a year. Quite a bit of the local land is still farmed
but the developers are slowly closing in. It's not as bad as
    some are led to believe.
    take care

Albeit rare, home invasion-style robberies do occur when large numbers of a gang enter a house rapidly and with much force and violence. This is something that only full-auto could possibly prevent which makes a great justificatoin for full-auto.
