FORT LEONARD WOOD MISSOURI

edited July 2002 in General Discussion
I figured I'd stop in during my brief vacation and let the Missouri folks here know that I'll be heading off to Ft. Leonard Wood on Saturday evening (July 6) and will be there for the MP Basic Non Commissioned Officer Course until September 12th. If anyone is interested in meeting up I'm sure I'll have a few Saturdays off during that timeframe. I'm sure I'll spend at least one of those Saturdays at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield.

You were at the top of my list for look-ups!

I spent two months there in 1999 going through the Army's MPI course. How is it a firearms enthusiast paradise? I was impressed with the pawn shop's selection of firearms. It was good for a pawn shop (no offense to pawn shop owners). I was thinking about bringing a gun or two with me but it's such a pain in the you-know-what to take a gun to an Army installation if you are there temporarily. I kept my guns off-post while I was at Ft. Jackson last spring. Fortunately I had an off-post contact there who was a very good friend of a buddy of mine.

Huh? If that was in reference to "zeroing in on me" you are way off base(no pun intended). You got the part about living in the states right though. I'm single with no kids. I live alone and plan on being single until I'm at least in my 30's. I haven't lived on a military installation for over a year now.

Of course you could inform me which stateside bases offer on-base housing for dependents(permanent not temporary housing).

Cant say about Leonard Wood as its been 40 yrs since I have been there.

Actually there is no such thing as permanent housing on any base, as most people dont live there permanently,

The longest I ever stayed on a base was in Germany for 4 yrs, and on for 2 yrs on a base here in the states,

But for all practical purposes, the Army considers housing permanent, if your going to live there for the duration of your tour there.
Temp housing is provided until you can find a place on the local economy

No there is no "permanant" housing on Army installations. There is only housing available to you (i.e. "loaned" to you) while you are stationed there with dependents.

I'll post my phone number here while I am at Ft. Leonard Wood and you can give me a call sometime Law Dog. Heck, I'll even post my mailing address. Send me a letter and I'll send you a Leonard Wood post card.

    idsman,
My address is 127 Forrest St., and yes my family lives with me Law, come on over Law, and I'll show you what its like for a Marine living in the gheto, this housing sucks. Idsman, make sure you email me before you leave and name a place and time you want to meet, and I'll meet you there. There is only one gas station on post, and that isnt far from where I think you are going to school, but I'm not sure, cause I dont really know what the army facilities are, I keep to the Marine side of the house. Anyway, that would be a great place to meet, just need to give me a time, and I'll meet you, like I said, email me and we'll work it out. I'll give you my phone number then too. Actually I'll email you, duh, I have your address.

robsguns--I estimate that I will have about a 10-hour drive ahead of me. I'd like to get there in time to go to the Armed Forces Bank on post if it is open tomorrow. I haven't lived near an Armed Forces Bank since I was at Fort Lewis and am tired of dealing with people on the telephone. Hopefully they will be open. I'm guessing that the bank hours will be 9am-noon so it looks like I'll be kicking off around midnight tonight if things go as planned. Then I'll be heading over to clothing sales to pick up all the gear that I still need for the school. My computer will be the last thing I pack tonight so I will post here if plans change.

Give me a call, you have the #, if anything goes wrong on the way here, and I'll give you a hand. Dont forget the coolant level in your vehicle, and check the tire pressure, I know you know, but I had to tell you, I'm in Motor "T". Its suppose to be pretty hot tomorrow I think, its good you're traveling at night. Make sure your coffee cup is spill proof If you dont make it to the bank on time let me know if you need something. My wife says she thinks its open from 9-12 like you said. Drive careful.

I appreciate that. During all of this preparation to take off for 2 months I lost my Armed Forces Bank Visa Check Card. I'd like to see if they can give me something like an ATM card to use as a substitute so I can access my cash instead of having to wait two weeks for a check card to come in the mail.
