Russian made .223 ammo that is designated as being ".223" on the box, but has (5.56x45mm) underneath it is okay to fire in standard .223 chamberings correct? So here is how it actually reads:

.223 Rem
(5.56x45mm)
62 Grain HP

Just received a call from an Ohio distributor informing me that the 223 ammo is sold out and that the manufacturers are advising there will be none available as all production will go for the military. Interesting.

I've already ordered a few thousand rounds of HP 7.62x39mm for the AK's, along with some tracers. I've already got a respectable stockpile, but who knows if ammo will be readily available for awhile? Check out www.cabelas.com for smoking ammo deals. They also throw in a free ammo can for every 500 rounds you buy. Their prices are a lot better than Midway's or CDT's.

In some ways, hope it's not a rumor. Wasn't too long ago that there were reports that the Services were so low on some types of small arms ammo that some field units in the Pacific weren't even able to do qualification shooting, much less practice. *If* that was true, no wonder they are diverting production to the military now.

Hey Ed, what'd you buy (standard/nat'l match, fiberglass/wood stock)? I too just got an M1A rifle! I haven't actually received it yet, but I'm awaiting a call from my favorite FFL. Anyway, let me know how you like it and any comments you have! I look forward to shooting this one (and, I already have a substantial supply of ammo).G36

G36,I was leaning towards one of the shorter Scout models, but was a little concerned about the gas system not working quite as well due to the shortened barrel, so I got a Standard model in a new "Mossy Oak" camo synthetic finish they just started shipping. The finish on the stock seems like it could crumble off kind of easy, and I kind of wish it came with a cleaning kit, but they include a very generous coupon for buying 50-60 different items at extremly discounted prices, so I'll probably pick up a cleaning kit and disassembly tools using that coupon. As you probably know, they've got that great deal on the scope till the end of this month too.Taking it to the range next Monday for the first time- really looking forward to it.Aside from the stock, I've had it completely apart and re-assembled, seems like a real quality manufactured gun.
