We do not have the draft anymore - in fact not for quite some time. We've gone to a totally voluntary military. Not sure but I still think when you turn 18 you have to go down and register (if you are a male). However, after 8 years of Clinton that may no longer be the case either.

As stated above!I would rather have a volunteer military rather than a draft system. When we have a draft system we end up with a bunch of cowards hiding up in Canada. No draft-no draft dodgers! The only time a draft should be used is whenwe are in absolute man power shortages.I think that the people we have now coupled with our high tech hardware should be more than sufficient to defeat most enemies.JMHO

They are not in a serious need. Won't take me back for a little ol' disability (%20), said they might before they draft, though. So I'm gonna apply for a FAM position, we'll see how much of a pay cut.....All men register for selective service at 18 in case of a draft. Equal rights??? Yea, right.Andy

Allendan, there is NO computer command for "fix bayonets." The grunt on the ground does the work, forget the tech BS.
It's not what you know that gets you in trouble, it's what you know that just ain't so!

Amen HAIRY!This draft talk has me at about wits end. It's darn near making me nauseous. Watch the news! This is not a war where we have an Army to go attack. This is primarily a spec. ops type of war. If anything, the Special Forces and Delta Force will be trying to increase their ranks but it still takes forever to go through their qualification and training phases. I hear the word "draft" every day at work and it makes me wonder who is really paying attention or is everyone caught up in the "war" high that they got addicted to via Desert Storm. This isn't going to be another CNN video game where you can watch planes drop bombs all day and all night. This is going to be a war where the people on the ground do all the dirty work. More than likely, we will also be forced to work with and pay off people that have "dirty hands" in order to get the job done.
