What to do in Florida

I can't say I was spoiled growing up. I was taken care of and raised right but was always told that I had to earn what I wanted to have. Mom and Dad surprised me today by telling me that they were going to fly my brother and me down to Florida for five days while we are both on leave during the first week of June. I know that the standard response is going to be gun-related. However, my brother doesn't share the same passion that I have for guns and I know that he's going to be ready to go out and blow off some steam due to the fact that these last couple of weeks at West Point are going to be very stressful for him (final exams and all). Are there any suggestions that anyone here may have regarding things to do and see in Florida? I've only been there a couple of times visiting the family of a girl I used to date in college who was from Clearwater. I never really got to see much of the state. I'm sure my brother is going to want to "blow off steam" in an environment that is conducive to meeting members of the "fairer sex". Disney/Epcott are pretty much a given. I just don't want to spend all kinds of money and miss something that shouldn't be missed while I am there. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Don't know if you plan to visit the Orlando area or not. If so, suggest that you visit the Randall Knife Company.

It is a small shop and easy to find. Friendly people. They usually have a few knives for sale at the counter. Various models.

It is my understanding that they will try to get a knife to a military person ASAP. Especially if you will be assigned to a foreign area.

They ask for a $ 25.00 downpayment and the rest before shipment. Credit cards are ok.

Another really great attraction is the space center. Reasonable prices and plan on spending a day. Only about an hours drive from the Orlando area.

Hope you have a great visit.

Florida in June? Ouch. Expect 90+ degree heat and 95% humidity. I'm sure our members here who reside in the sunshine state will agree florida can get really uncomfortable in june. That said I know what I would do in florida. Disney disney and more disney. I love the place. Been going there every two years since the mid 70's. I travel a lot but my extended vacations are all ways at disney. I am going back this fall. Enough about me. Where in florida are you flying into? There are tourist attractions in just about the whole state. I have toured all most the entire state so I can tell you what I enjoyed if you let me know where in the state your headed.

The tickets haven't been purchased yet. I need to confirm my vacation days but I believe we will be flying into Orlando. I've heard that you can purchase a single ticket that will get you into Bush Gardens, Disney, and Universal Studios. I'd like to purchase them online if possible instead of getting gouged when I get there.

We spent our last summer vacation mostly in Florida. With kids. We did ALL the amusement parks on successive days. I nearly walked my feet off. Of all the places we went, I liked Busch Gardens best, then Gatorland Zoo, then Islands of Adventure.

You can also look up Pelican, in Alambama, just east of Florida. I did and made a good friend.

Pensacola is worth a look or two. I kind of like the panhandle area and it's not too far from Biloxi with the gambling boats. Beach

Well, I'm down in Miami, and I can say it sure is hot down here. Bout 95 degrees and humid as can be. If your going to orlando, there's a small place called 'old town'. live country music on the weekends, mechanical bull, a couple of bars with Harleys lining the curb.

If your looking to see some sights, I would highly recommend Universal Studios as the first choice. The rides are better IMO. If you can afford an hour drive each way, you may want to check out Busch Gardens. I've never been there, but am planning on going in the couple of months. If you do decide to come down to the Miami area, all I can say is enjoy the beach. The weather is beautiful and the women more beautiful...atleast most of them are woman...some of them you just can't really tell without getting too close, but thats a topic for another thread.

In either case, wherever you go, have fun and relax and enjoy the weather.

There is lots to do in Florida, wildlife is fantastic, beaches, fishing, flea markets for anything you could ever want, museums, games etc.. I am fairly new to Florida (3 years) and I never get tired of the sights. Granted the weather is warm, but very nice. The people are great. As for the tickets, type in Bush Garden tickets in Google and you come up with about 10 pages.. I have listed on sight that gives packages... just hunt around and you can find the best price. To bad you missed bike week..*wink* Now theres a though.. rent a harley!!!!! and ride... but safe..

    Idsman,

Not sure about the Disney, Universal, Busch Garden single ticket. I think it is Universal, Busch and Seaworld. You might want to try sky venture. It's an indoor wind tunnel skydiving ride. Check out the video www.skyventure.cc/index_flash.htm it's a lot of fun.

Seaworld and Busch Gardens are owned by the Anhauser-busch Co..and those others are owned by some Mickey Mouse Company out of Kissimee...but most people think they are out of Orlando.

Beach, My job is working in the Magic Kingdom at night after all the guests go and testing all the rides on the east side. ( Space Mtn., Buzz, Barnstormer, etc.) . Its like you see on discovery or travel channels , somebody has to check and ride the rides to make sure that they are safe for the next days opening and that is my job. They are federal mandated ride legislation pm's that have to be done every day weither one person rides it or 50,000 so its my job to look at everything and say its safe or not.
I will e-mail the ones that requested info on help getting in and hope I can help you. There is no discounts, only free or nothing.

I think your brother has the right idea.Florida has tons of very attractive and friendly ladies, and miles of beautiful beaches. If you enjoy live music,Fl. has a very active and ecclectic music scene, and it won't cost a fortune to partake in those activities.Working in the Music industry,my frequent trips to Fl. are usually working vacations.
Orlando,Disney, etc. can be expensive, and overrun with foriegn tourists, who I've found to be rather rude. Also some wonderful resturants.F.Y.I. Fl. also recognizes many other states ccw permits.

Better check out the white sand beach in Sarasota, it was voted the best all white silicone sand beach in the world awhile back and there are plenty of beautiful ladies that hang out there. If you like fishing, you'll be in an anglers paradise as well, there is a place called Blackburn Point that the chenook love to hang at after dark. Get yourself some live shrimp and a good float and be prepared for some action. Maken me jealous just thinkin about it... Have fun...

Was in Orlanda April before last on a Make-A-Wish trip for my son. Enjoyed the heck out of Disney, especially the "Animal Kingdom" park. We had tickets to several parks: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios, Sea World etc. For adults, Universal Studios was great, but the kids enjoyed Disney. I must say though that the employees at Disney were absolutly awesome in dealing with our handicapped son and getting him anything he needed to make his trip fun. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get on any ride, and this was with lines stretching out to an hour and half wait on most. They were just great, and it is a trip that we will not soon forget. Disney knows how to do the amusement park business right.

The main thing we Flarda folks want you to do is bring plenty of money and spend freely.
Maybe if enough of you come down we can get a few new boat ramps.
We thank you for your contribution to the our economy.
