Which new gun would you check out?

The choice of handguns these days is truly enjoyable, and I wish I could afford to own and try out many more than I am able to do. I find the Springfield XD interesting, at least for people who insist a grip safety is a worthwhile safety feature, and suddenly along comes a gorgeous new full page ad for the Smith/Walther 99, quite a handsome piece of work, particularly for those who like lots of controls! It even has a decocking "button." I was wondering which of the newbies out there (and these are only two examples) you'd most like to run through its paces and perhaps add to your collection. I know someone will mention Kimbers, because there's such a big push on for them, but I'd like to hear about some other new entries as well.

I still gotta get my hands on that Glock 36 .45 ACP compact. It ain't the newest kid on the block, but I just haven't gotten around to getting one yet.

As a Glock veteran I have a confession. I've always gone for the most compact gun in a given configuration. I had a G21 for a while and enjoyed the full sized gun, but still gave in and went to a G30 instead. Then I decided it was a little too blocky, even for a Glock, so I let it go when I really needed some money. Then I found the PT145, which struck me as a much more ergonomically interesting .45, and surprisingly no bigger than my G27 or my small frame snubbie .44. So I bought the PT145 and for now at least that's my "modern" .45, though I love my Star PD more.

Glock became well-known for always getting one or two more rounds into its double-stacks than any competing model, so the single stack almost seems like heresy, but of course it isn't. Some day you'll let us know how you like the 36. I'm sure it conceals well, and comfortably, which has always been one more advantage of the polymer framed guns (besides weight).

I would like to add a comment taken from the "Super Guns" episode of "Tales of the Gun" on the History Channel the other night. The show was about the Land Warrior and other in-roads into the technologies of the future -- and they clear said that polymers, superpolymers, resins -- whatever you want to call them -- are going to become more and more a part of the guns of the near future, because they are strong and light, among other benefits. Also learned something I didn't know -- titanium "gives" (bends, at least temporarily) under high pressures, so all-titanium guns have steel-lined bores. Titanium also can't be rifled, for some reason. Interesting.

For carry, I love the Glock 26. Have over 1000 rounds thru it with no missfires or jams. will do 4" freehand at 10 yards.

I've been drooling over the Kimber Eclipse at Gary's Guns in Sioux Falls, SD. I hate the fact that work takes me up into Sioux Falls and am placed in a position where I have no choice but to go into Gary's and check out the wares. I swung by Gary's today while in Sioux Falls for work but they were closed. The temptation to buy might have been too great for me to bear.
