Computer Gurus--help me listen to Gun Talk

I am having a problem. I formatted my hard drive and downloaded the latest Realplayer updates and Windows Media Player. I tried listening to "Gun Talk" with Tom Gresham on Sunday via Live internet stream and it came through but it came through slow and sluggish. It sounded like I was listening to a tape player with low batteries. This happened with both Realplayer and Windows Media Player. I'm trying to find the setting I need to "tweak" in order to fix the problem. Any suggestions?

    Streaming audio is hard to listen to on a slow connection. Only thing I can suggest is to set the buffers high in WMP or RP so it waits untill the buffers are full before playing, and if you can change the size of the buffers do that, crank them up as high as you can get them.

    I just checked WMP, under options / performance there is a check box that says use default buffers, uncheck that and check the one under it and change the default 5 seconds higher. Experiment with it untill you find a setting that will allow uninterupted playing. The higher the number the more info is stored before playing. Also leave the detect my internet settings set to automatic. Infact, try manualy setting it to 28.8 and see if that helps, that will fool it into buffering more signal.

    I had to disable 16-bit sound (using 8-bit only) and I had to disable custom sampling settings. Things are great now. I tested it out on some recordings of Tom Gresham's public service announcements found at www.guntalk.com

    Check it out sometime. The show is great and there is a chat room that runs simultaneously with the show. Tom comes into the chatroom during commercial breaks and answers questions and raises points on his show that were brought up in the chat room. Loads of fun and it's real easy to get on the air with him!

    Aint dat sumpin, I went and installed WMP just to look and I didnt even see that, ohh well. Guess I can go ahead and unistall it now.

    I didn't mess with WMP. I just tinkered with Real Player. Actually, I think it's called REAL ONE now. I pretty much view/listen to all of my media via REAL NETWORKS software.
