Young people need more safe places
I strongly agree with the May 8 letter to the editor by Ed Mohs, "Youth violence: Community must help work to help kids."
As a senior at Kamiak High School, I think it's time the government should do something about all the violence that's around us. Every week I opn the newspaper and there's always some kind of tragedy in it. I'm just sick and tired of seeing people die at such a young age.
I suggest the government build a place, like a little plaza, with shops, coffee stands, etc., so teens could hang out in the evenings and on the weekends. The government should cut back on the patrol forces, so they could raise enough money to build the place. When the teens have a place to go, we won't need as many cops on the streets.
If the government won't do anything about this, who will? We don't have the power and authority to change anything.

Allow specific eligible and trained minors to carry concealed, and allow those kids and legal adult holders of CCWs to carry in school.
If they were to do that, instead of assuming all kids are criminals, then you'd see the youth crime rate drop.
Have PARENTS provide a place for their children,,maybe even take part in their upbringing.
Nah,,dumb idea,,give each kid an UZI to put in their lunch pail,,yea thats a better idea.
"Just my opinion."
We don't have the power or authority to change anything. Hmmm. I guess there are no leaders in your community. Then again, dependence upon the government to hold your hand fosters the type of environment in which true leaders are stifled. Sorry that the adults in your community don't give a rats * about their kids. Maybe you can learn from their mistakes. I won't hold my breath.
