chicken bone dance

Well, I got back from Des Moines today after having an intimate Q&A session with the Command Sergeant Major and other members of his promotion board. Fortunately, after much studying, I got the high score of 147/150 and am being recommended for promotion to Staff Sergeant. I didn't think I had the time to prepare and was nervous going in but I used a technique similar to the one where you imagine everyone in their underwear. I imagined my boss doing the chicken bone dance and got a big grin in my face which I wiped off promptly prior to entering the board room. The chicken bone dance is a dance that is rumored to give Army Recruiters and their applicants good luck. Are their any other superstitions that you have taken to heart prior to final exams/certification exams etc..?

Unless you got an MOS where the cutoff score is 998 month after month, year after year. I got tired of it and got out as an E-5P with 958 promotion points.

Now the point system is based off an 800 point scale. The promo board is now only worth 150 and Commander's points are 150 and I can't remember what else the shaved off. Civilian education is now worth 1.5 points per credit hour but they still max out at 100. I don't understand why people get more points for less education. Oh well. This dang desk job is holding me back. 80 hours a week behind a desk is keeping me from doing what I need to do to score above my current 258 on the APFT. I think my point cut-off is around 785. Don't think I ever saw the cutoff get lower than 900 or 950. I would have been an E-6 in 4 years with cutoff scores like that. It always seemed the easy promoting ones with the low cutoff scores were the ones with the reenlistment bonus. I got out in '93 after 8 years and said to hell with them. i was always in the 260 to 280 range on the APFT. Never could max out on the run. I think the best I ever did the 2 mile in was 12:40. Don't remember for sure but I know it was just under 13. Really used to piss off the young kids to see my short stocky old * smoke them on all the runs.

The point system changed. It is no longer based off 1000 points. It is now based off 800 points. Last time I checked, my primary zone cutoff for E-6 was 785. It could be awhile before I make it.

jerm-check out this web site http://www.aimsrdl.atsc.army.mil/accp/accp_top.htm i don't know how you're setting on mil education for points but this is the place to sign up for correspondence, if you're not alreasy signed up it's all done online now and they track any old courses you may have had
whatever you do, try to look unimportant, the enemy may be low on bulletsalso check out an arts transcript @your ed center. with your schools it should be worth a pretty penny, just be aware it costs about $225-250 at a local school if you're not enrolled in a course.[This message has been edited by instrumentofwar (edited 12-06-2001).]

I had my civilian ed. points maxed out before I joined the Army. I have enough schools to max out military ed. so I haven't touched a single correspondence course. I sat down several months ago and figured that I've spent around 15 - 20% of my time in the military training in military courses (MPI, Basic Recruiter Course, PLDC, Field San, Unit Armorer, DVIT, CAPIT etc...). The only thing holding me back right now is my PT and I'm working on that. I'm re-taking the PT test on the 15th. I usually score a 280 or above but the last 6 months in this job has really killed it for me. Sitting behind a desk or behind the wheel of a vehicle for around 80 hours a week has got me in a bind and my last PT test was a 239. Is there a place online to look for cut-off scores? I've been relying upon the Army Times and haven't seen one in a month.

For the "uninitiated" among us, would you please demonstrate the "chicken bone dance"? Is it anything like the funky chicken?

You get a bucket of chicken from KFC. You eat ALL of it and arrange the bones in a perfect unbroken circle around a group of candles. Light the candles and dance naked around the circle in the most creative and violent manner possible uttering loud gutteral noises until you collaps from exhaustion or the police arrive to investigate a strange sex crime reported by the neighbors.I thought this thread died! Good to see you again instrumentofwar. I've been trying to call 13fister but it sounds like he took leave and went to Ft. Sill without talking to us.

Idsman-Instrument is right-ACCP is a helluva way to get correspondance course points. I earned 71 or so just in the month of Nov. alone. BTW when you come over to the Guard, they are worth a ratio of 5 to 1 promotion points.
