Okay, not to beat the deployment horse to death, but I just had the best day in country yet.Ya know that feeling when you complete a successful stalk, before the shot (bow, rifle, or whatever) when you just stop and revel in the feel of getting so close to something or someone who has no clue as to who is around and watching?Today a joe and myself were set up in a hide observing activities in a few small mountain towns. Damn good hide spot, dug in, forward slope, perfect camo. The only way you're finding me is to fall on us on accident. Well we're just setting there when we hear a sheep herder in the valley start to move his flock up the mountain. No big deal, it's a big place. However we hear him getting closer and closer. Talking to someone (turned out to only be his sheep). All the while getting closer and closer. I tell Sanders to watch the net while I go see what's up. I know you're not supposed to move when concealled but he was getting close and not knowing if he was alone I wasn't going to wait for him to stumble on us w/o getting behind to find out how many were with (if any). So up he comes and I end up stalking/lo-crawling around him to get the wind in my face. Nobody to worry about, if he found us all we would have done was zip-tied him until we packed up and di-di'd. I ended up just watching him from about 5 meters away through the scrub. Him, his 8 sheep, and his good for nothing sheep dog, all completly oblivious that there was a soldier with a locked and loaded M4 within knifing distance. He ended up just getting some firewood and I followed him back down his trail. God what a rush.
The world is full of sheep, run with the wolves and make 'em call ya daddy

If you got withen 5 meters of a sheep dog, it must have been completely senseless (blind, deaf, unable to smell) or dead...

That's what I was wondering, it was completly happy to listen to his master. The sheep were kind of looking in my dir, but with no wind to them and my not moving, they lost interest very quickly.

Great job.You had me smelling those sheep.A dog the spends all day with sheep cant smell garlic. Most dogs can sence when they are about to become dead.

instrumentofwar--good to hear from you again. I can't wait for your safe return so you can share more stories over a cold beer. The PVM can't wait to welcome you with open arms. I still have your Christmas present boxed up and sitting in my apartment. I figured I'd wait to give it to you in person. You make me proud. I just turned a civilian into a gun-bunny yesterday and thought about the PVM when I heard that he picked 13B for his MOS. Take care and be safe. We're all pulling for you back on the home front.
