After 9 years of working a blue collar job, I am finally in the process of acquiring my first house... which brings me to this question: Does anyone here have a false door that leaves to a refuge in their house? I have an extremely deep coat closet in the house I'm purchasing and was thinking of turning half of it into a inconspicuous saferoom.Any ideas?thanks,-smooth

My favorite was one I saw in rich town. Shelves from floor to ceiling that opened as a door. The trick was- you need a magnet placed in an exact spot to open the latch behind the door for it to open. No knob, no key, no handle to give it away. Even if you knew it opened you didn't know how! Gonna do this myself.

Plated a gun room for a guy, using 1/4" steel plate. It was a room built under his staircase.Because of the way the staircase went up, you wouldn't know about the room.Access was gained by lifting a wooden knob that pulled a counterweight raising half the staircase. But it raised the top, hinged at the bottom, which meant you had to be at the top of the stairs to make it work.A ladder was attached to the underside, allowing desent into the room.He fire-proofed it, then I measured and cut the pieces prior to installing them. Welding them together in that room was the hardest part.

I did mine the other way.No hiding it, just inside an alarmed building, which sits in a yard with my two dogs, 5" concrete walls with more rebar than a p/u can haul. Vault door from a bank that closed, that has a XX minute time delay after the correct combination is applied, plus the dial is keylocked to prevent someone from standing there trying to guess the combo. Not too concerned about someone breaking in, neighbor is too good a shot.

If it's in a rec-room type area, buy a soda vending machine, take out the guts and use it as the door (or a safe).

I'm looking for one of those closets that serve as an entrance to Narnia...I keep walking in them and hit my face on the back wall. I wonder if C.S. Lewis left any blueprints behind...
