Ever since I worked at a meat packing plant I never wanted to see another hot dog again. However, my boss has re-awakened an old vice from my past. If you've ever been to Sioux City, IA have you ever eaten at the Milwaukee Weiner House downtown? If not, lunch is on me the next time you pass through!

I lived in Sioux City (Leeds ) for 7 years and I ate there often. Since you worked in a Meat packing plant you must be talking about John Morrell or IBP. I go back there every once in a while. I used to have an office there but I still have some good friends there and my Corvette is still in storage there also.

Actually, I worked for Sioux-Preme full time for 6 months while I was waiting to be released from the Reserves. I was not allowed to go Active Duty right off the bat. My boss takes it personally if I stop at Milwaukee Weiner House and don't invite him along. He actually gets a bit adolescent on me. He likes it because they serve cans of Hamm's Beer there (for when he's not working).

not to beat a dead horse, but this alaska thing, our (danny's and mine) hopes are to take my 30 days PCS leave and see some of the country. or what country we can manage to see en route. the plan is to drive from new york to oklahoma to see (JUST) Al for a few days. then it's off to see some family that i haven't seen in 14 years in carroll, iowa (again for a few days) and if we could fit it into our busy schedule, possibly stop into lovely Sewer City to see a wonderful friend of ours, maybe you've heard of him he goes by the name of ....AND THEN THERE WAS JEREMY (i know the names kind of funny but he's a nice guy). hopefully for a few days, it all depends on this recruiter schedule. and last drive up to minneapolis to see mom and the sister before making a beeline west (and the voices rang out from the heavens "GO WEST MY BOY"). i would like to get up to Ft. Rich about a week before i sign in to replacement so i could check out living arangements and speak with the CSM at the unit, just to make sure they don't slip and send me up to Ft. Wainright up near Fairbanks. at least that's the plan for now, you know how things can change.
Rule #1: there is no easy wayRule #2: if,in fact, there is an easy way, it's mined (especially in Afghanistan or Kosovo!)

Yep, they got great dogs. Ask for everything on it and you get mustard, onions and some killer chili. I usually get 2 dogs with everything and a bowl of chili.Give me a holler if you ever come to town. I live up by North High school just off of Outer Drive. idsman75@peoplepc.comMilwaukee Weiner House is on Pearl Street just down the road from the Army/Navy Surplus Store and an archery shop. Most don't know where that is. Unfortunately, the most widely recognized landmark closest to the weiner house is the Adult Emporium which is also on the same road.

X racer, I used to rent the old Leeds fire station 1988-1995. I have a uniformed Security business. 4014 Floyd Blvd. We used to have the best Halloween costume parties there. I am sure you probably saw the squad cars parked in the front.[This message has been edited by royc38 (edited 01-14-2002).]

Ah good old Sioux City and Taco John's oh how I crave Tat'ole's. The cold winter's the snow the smell. Spending hours in the stockyards where it was at least 10 degrees colder under that giant metal roof. I never made to that hotdog stand I'll have to make a visit on my next trip. Where is it?

I'm in Sioux City 3 0r 4 nights a week. idsman...I used to work in a slaughterhouse for 18 years and know EXACTLY what goes into a hot dog. Are these things really worth it? I'm willing to trust your judgement, but at the same time the idea of eating one of those things gives me the willies. Is it acceptable dining behavior to cap off the meal with a swig of Pepto Bismal?

idsman75I also ate at a place in South Sioux City called Hungry's. They have a grill right out in the open there so you can see your steak being done. It was some of the best steak I've ever had. If you're a steak man do yourself a favor and try it...'Blue

One thing I like about recruiting is the fact that I can take a government vehicle anywhere provided that I am actively prospecting for Army applicants. This weekend there is a boat/knife/gun show in South Sioux City that I'll be heading to while working. I got a couple of leads from the last gun show I went to on a work day. I'll have to stop at Hungry's for lunch.

Here's an idea for you idsman....how about setting up a recruiting table at local gunshows, featuring current miltary weapons....Beretta 92F, M-16, M-60, etc.Even better...an Army display at some of the larger gunshows on "US Army Weapons".....featuring such arms as 1860 Army revolver, 1873 SAA, trapdoor Springfield, Krag, M1917, M1903, M1911 & A1, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Thompson, M3, M14......etc., etc., etc.

I know what you guys are talking about when you discuss those hot dogs. I call on processing plants and see them being made but believe it or not I still like to eat em. Do they dye that meat when it comes out of the vat or does it turn red in the process? I sell P.T. Components that includes chain for the Alcar Smoke house!

idsman75, I don't know if I will ever get there, but if you ever find your way back to this neck of the woods, the biggest flapjack you ever ate is own me. I might even toss in a fresh hot box of Jeans Beans.Trinity+++

I'm planning to make it up there around the 3rd week of May. The Golden Unicorn's legendary flapjack is a MUST! Jean's Beans is also a critical pit stop that must be made.

If you come up in May, bring your hunting garb. That's the middle of Turkey season, and you know where I will be every weekend.Trinity+++

Hmmm....think I can get an in-state hunting license in NY at the Outdoor Rec. center if I flash my military I.D.? Last year they didn't ask to see a copy of my oders proving that I was stationed there.
