Mental Illness and Gun Ownership....

Good, now that I have your attention,I would like your opinions.Back in 1985 when I got sober,I was diagnosed with chemical depression.I was then prescribed a tri-cyclic anti-depression medication.I have taken this medication ever since.Am I lying on the federal form when it asks me if I am addicted to any drugs? Or does that not apply to prescribed medications? I have been told by my shrink that I will probably take this medication for the rest of my life, much like blood pressure medication.I feel no effects from this medication, only that the symtoms went away and did not return. The symtoms I experianced included loss of appetite, unable to sleep soundly, almost constant headaches, among others.Lately I have had thoughts of not taking the medication, and getting my old postal uniform out of the closet....just kidding about the last part!!Anyway,at what level of mental instability should a person not be allowed to legally own a gun? And who would make that call? Federal or local? Doctor or law enforcement? Just wondering.........

Little people talk about people, regular people talk about things, and big people talk about ideas.

Most of the tri-cyclic anti-depression are not habit forming according to any CPS... or drug book in layman terms, but again it depends on the drug... You are not lying as you are not addicted to it, but take it as someone with high BP would take their med.. Check with the dr if necessary.. but you are NOT addicted.

If you have a chronic medical condition, for which you are taking prescription medication under a doctor's orders, it's not considered addiction.
