Tis the season to ask for new hunting boots. I have access to Danner's at a discount. Please weigh in on your suggestions for a warm, light, waterproof boot. Any ideas on socks too ?

    What is your favorite brand.

I am thinking of going Danner again as the last pair is still good to go after wearing them 3 years straight.

Yes,I take them off to sleep.

Recently I closed on my dwelling and came into a little extra money. So, last week I decided to buy a collection of new footware as what I've been wearing is three plus years old.

It seems that while rereading the order, while checking the tracking, I made a mistake w/one of the purchases. It looks like one of the pair of boots are a SideZip boot and I'm concerned w/a blow-out of these types of boots.

[?]Have any of you ladies and gentlemen have experience w/this style of boot and please share.

Or should I just send them back and pick something else?? [B)]

Danner. And, they're American made to boot (pun intended). I think the company is in Oregan, but I'm not sure. Great boots, great customer service.

I spend alot of time and money in and on my boots I have many pairs of Vasque and Danners they are #1 and stand by their name for repai /replacement. I do have some Hitec magnus and like them as well but in the boot market you do get what you pay for.

I used Danner and Chippewas as a Firefighter and now use Rocky as a LEO. The Magnums are OK for light work, but for heavy duty go with the Danner's or Chippewas. Stay away from the Smith and Wessons. I had 2 pair that didn't last a month. Sportmans Guide has some great clearance deals at thier website. I picked up my last pair of Rockys for just $19.99.[This message has been edited by borderguy (edited 03-07-2002).]

Gene-No doubt, Borderguy is steerin' you straight, for military duty I wear either Matterhorns or original OD green Jungle boots. Make sure though, that if you get Jungle boots, that they have CANVAS uppers, not nylon. The nylon ones are usually Chinese made and fall apart too easy. If you can find a pair of military issue desert boots with the padded tops, there are really comfortable for hot weather enviroments. Danner's and Matterhorns are excellent boots, as are Herman Survivors (is Herman's still in business?? Anyone??). Chippewa's are also a great boot, especially for warm weather and frozen ground, the pair I was issued in Germany had two sets of wool insoles that were 3/4" thick, my feet were never cold. (BTW, I tried to put one set of liners in the dryer after I washed them, like a dumba$$, they shrank about 2 sizes.)If cheap is what you are aiming for, the current issue military "'cruit boot" is not a bad way to go, although they are not built with comfort in the forefront of the design, and they take a while to get broke in/used to.

Altama makes a good pair of leathers, jungles, and deserts. Comfortable too!
If you can't fix it with a hammer, take it to a mechanic. will270win@aol.com ~Secret Select Society Of Suave Stylish Smoking Jackets~

Gene, what size do you wear? I have a pair of Brand New GI Issue in size 10. They're Leather Uppers with a Gore-Tex liner and a Vibram Sole.

I have a pair of Chippewa boots that I inherited from my dad 20 years ago and I don't know how long he had them. I don't wear them much anymore. They are insulatd and very heavy, that is the way they made them back in those days. Very Heavy for a fat guy to lug around in a snow cover field on a phesant hunt...If I was going to buy a new pair of boots I think I would pay attention to the guys that wear them every day making their living in them for comfort and durability.....After reading the above posts I went to the Danner Webb site, man they have some serious prices on their boots but they look like they are probably worth it, and if you are on your feet all day long that is the most important article of clothing. I wear black Tennis Shoes in my sales job, not real dressy looking but they are super comfortable.... Oto [This message has been edited by Otoman (edited 03-09-2002).]
