I have a 1956 Chevy 210 sedan that i have owned since 1976.The original owner traded it in on a newer car.The car lot gave it to my friend at the wrecking yard for some money they owed him.The motor smoked in it,and my friend knowing i had a thing for 56 Chevys sold it to me for $5.00(My very good friend)I pulled the engine out of my other 56,and put in my new one.My wrecking yard friend has been driving two 1940 Dodge trucks since the mid 1950s-The engine in my 56 was rebuilt by me originally by me in 1971.I have been collecting parts to rebuild it again.---Dr.Evil---

My dad has owned his 1960 Plymouth Fury since it came off the dealers lot new. His parents bought it for him when he graduated high school. Helped that his uncle was the Dodge-Plymouth-International dealer in the city. As for me, working on 13 years with my 1990 Chevy p/u. 240,000 miles and still going strong.

I bought a 73 Ford F-250 in 75. Since then I have rebuilt the motor, changed it from an auto to a stick. Rusted like crazy but still runs strong.

If I knew then, what I know now.

I have a 1965 Ford Falcon, bought it when I was 13 years old. Had to mow a lot of yards and help put up a lot of hay to pay for that one. I restored it when I was 15. One of dad's buddys sold it to me for $100. Had it about 18 years.

Twenty years. Bought a new Ford f-100 when I graduated high school and ran it regularly up to 1995 when my ex claimed it in the divorce and had it sent to the crusher for spite.

1972 Chevy K20. Bought it brand new with 25 miles on it in '72. Still running like a top with 225,000 miles.

1973 Pantera. Bought used in '75. It has been up on blocks for the last 18 years. Thinking about putting it on the road again.

Been driving the Same CJ-5 for 8 years (since I got my license) restoring it now. Had a 95 Chevy 3/4 ton since 97 164000 miles and still runs like a top. I'll have them both for as long as possible.

I drove a 1977 Datsun (sorry, I am so ashamed) pickup that I bought new for just over 15 years. It was running when I sold it, but not for long thereafter.

Actually, muley, while I don't care for Fords, my buddy SMSGT R.M. Robertson has a 1974 Ford F100 that he bought new. I went with him to pick it up.

It is on its third paint job and second engine, but it still goes.

I think it qualifies for an antique vehicle license.

I bought a Ford Explorer, new in 1993. It now has 251,000 miles on it. The outside is a bit faded, but the engine runs like a top. It has a V6, and at 55mph the rpm's are at 1500. I drive 50 miles, on the way to work. 1/2 mile on gravel, then blacktop or concrete all the way. I drive on country roads until I get into town. There are exactly 9 stop signs/lights from the front gate of my farm to the parking lot where I work. I have a great mechanic and he has her tuned so that I get just under 20mpg. Course I don't drive any faster than 60, and probably 50% of the time and driving 50 the rest of the way, and taking in the horse farms and river valleys all the way to work. Much nicer than when I used to commute in St. Louis. And, I got a little over 100,000 miles on a set of 6ply light truck Goodyear tires I got at Wally Mart. Got almost 15,000 on this set and they look brand new. There is something to be said for changing the oil every 3,000 miles and rotating the tires every 7,500.

I bought a brand new 88 Toyota Celica and drove it 90,000 miles in L.A. and across country to Fort Wayne, Indiana. It was a tremendous car -- the automatic trannie never needed a bit of work, the brakes could stop on a dime even in emergency panic stops. It finally developed an electrical short that couldn't be found by anyone, and there was a drain on the battery, so I traded it in on another car. But I give them credit for a strong-built car, and those amazing brakes. I decided though that I like a car with big tires. Those little 13 and 14 inchers have trouble staying aligned at speeds above 70, whereas on a 16 inch tire you can remain quite comfortable much faster in a pinch. I like the big tire ride. I owned a Toyota Supra later on which had 17" tires and it was a dream to drive in all weather (ABS, TC). But 17" tires are just one size too big to be reasonably priced. For my money, 16" is the way to go for a comfortable performance car.

1969 Pontiac Custom S (only year the Custom S was made) I bought it in 1982 and proceeded to hot rod it. I still have it and wish I had left it original.

Of course it is a blast to pull up next to one of the newer hotrods? and let that 389 with the holley and posi cut loose.

1988 F-250 Diesel(7.3 Corn Binder not Power Stroke) Bought from a friend in 1992. Hadn't ever sat out in the rain till I bought it!! Diesels are for Tractors, Buses and Trailer Trucks!!!!! I'm a farmer and my blood runs green! You couldn't pay me to have another diesel pickup!!!! The only way I'd ever own another dieselPU is that I could sell it to some poor unsuspecting person who thought they just had to have one! By the way mine is a 1988 and only has 124000 miles!! The only reason I still own it is because the wife and daughter(18 and going off to college) get first priority on vehicles to drive!!!!!! GHD
