Everybody knows it's hardest on the husband. Ask any mother, she'll tell you it was rough at the time but she forgot the pain when the baby finally came. We husbands, on the other hand, remember every damn thing.

Induced is great for you, you should be out of there by 3 PM as a DADDY, DO NOT FORGET TO CALL FOR 1 DOZEN ROSES, or you are a dead man. However, Pizza places deliver to maternity wards, if its your first you cant get away with that, #2 on....... pepperoni and mushroom please. If they ask you to cut the cord, and you answer "will you knock 200 bucks off the bill" you WILL get "THE LOOK" from as many females that are present at the time. I got "THE LOOK" from the doc, she didnt think it was funny, nor did she knock 200 bucks off the bill.

DO NOT FORGET THE ROSES, they may be in pain, but its nothing like you will experiance for the rest of your life if you neglect that 1 little item.

Try not to look scared when the kid pops out, although they remind you of a blue, wet Saint Bernard coming out of a cat door, it really is a person

Take it from someone's who has been there. Avoid inducement if at all possible. I just had a baby on April 21st, two weeks overdue and they wanted to induce. My water had been "breaking" for about 24 hours and I was not dilating fast enough so I didn't have much of a choice. They gave me pitocin to bring on the contractions. I went from having one mild contraction every 15-20 mins. to painful contractions every 1-2 mins. They were fast and furious. I was in so much pain. It is not a natural process and thus hurts that much more. You have no time to build yourself up to the increasing pain of the contractions. After about 4 hours, I was given the epideral, and that helped alleviate a lot of the pain. After it was all said and done, I ended up having her by c-section. I implure your wife to try to hold off on the inducement. Try to let nature take its course. I would not wish that pain even on my worst enemy. My doctors actually wanted me to be induced a week earlier, but trying to avoid the poticin, I declined and went against their medical advice. If your health or the baby's health is at risk, obviously you do what you have to do, but if at all possible, avoid it. I don't want to scare your wife, obviously I survived, but it certainly was not a pleasant experience. Good luck, hope all goes well. Let us know.

Congrats on the baby.. please keep in touch and let us know how it all went..

Gordian...who says we forget the bloody pain?... No way in flippin h*** do we forget the pain.. no way.. but it is all worth it.. *S*

Martzkj..I was induced as well.. was over due by 3 weeks...and the pain then was no worse than with my second one..which I had naturally by the way..Granted there was no time between contractions when induced, but the pain is the same..

martzkj- I went through the same thing as you, it was pain from 2:00pm until 2:30 pm the next day and then they took him because he was in distress! I don't think they cared about me after the epidural, I wasn't feeling anything! The second was much easier, no labor! They cut me open and took her before I had any pain!

It is all worth it, no matter how the baby comes out!

What are the names you have picked out? Is the nursery finished? Is the crib set up? Do you know how to put the car seat in the correct way? So much to do before he gets here!!!

I think the birth is harder for the fathers than anyone else!

BlackRoses, just pulling your leg. Everybody who has been through a delivery knows how tough it is on the mother.

My wife had to be induced 2 weeks early for our third and last, severe preeclampsia (also called toxemia). I was worried that we would lose the baby, there were signs of fetal distress, but everything turned out OK. He's 13 now and about ready to shoot past his father and brothers in size. So induced labor can be a life-saver in the right situation.

simonbs, I know you have other things to worry about, but I hope you let us know how everything went as soon as you can.

I have seen many mothers induced in the hospitals I worked in.. and thank god they were, healthy babies and mothers now..

Thanks again for all the encouragement!

We have this one and the next three already named, but we're not tellin' 'till it gets here.

    Blackroses,
We've still got a week to go, that's Friday the 19th, not 12th, sorry for the confusion.

This will be the first boy born in my Wife's large, half Italian family in 17 years. My Wife has three sisters and five female cousins. My Mother-in-law has lupus and has lost two boys. Its been a very emotional pregnancy.

I'm gonna print this out and give it to my Wife, it'll make her happy to see all the well-wishes.

The blond in me came full surface by missing that date... *kicks myself*...well I will check next Friday to see.. *L*..

Give her a hug for us.. we will be thinking of you both...By the way, what color is the nursery?.. and the baby clothes?.. *looking for clues as to boy or girl.. *LOL

I imagine it has been very emotional, given the circumstances, but from your post, I think its very safe to say that this baby is already very blessed ..

Get ready. Induced labor is TOUGH!

Be prepared to meet the Exorcist version of your better half.

Ex-wife had to be induced for our first. There is no natural progression of the contractions. It is like going from 0 to 120 mph in 2 seconds. I never saw a human in such misery. She called me everything but my name.

It was a LONG time before she was dilated enough that the Doc would OK the epidural, and by that time, my nerves were shattered, so I went down to the cafeteria for some coffee while the anesthesiologist did his bit. After I got back to the room, the epidural had done its trick, and there was a fairly normal human being where a shrieking demon had been before.

Of course, every woman and every pregnancy is unique. As the ad disclaimer states, "Your results may vary."

Good luck to all three of ya! Ours was 2 weeks overdue when they did the induceing, all turned out well but Eliza still needed to be cecerian.

Its a boy. The nursery is all red and yellow Mickey Mouse stuff (Wife and her family are Disney freaks).

If she is not dialated on Tuesday at our next appointment, we are going in Thursday night for some drugs to get that going. They are not going to induce until the cervix starts to dialate, so she can get the anesthesia as soon as she needs it.

One thing my wife said after our first. " THE WILL NEVER CUT ME AGAIN" and they didnt after the first. Docs like to snip so that they can get to the golf course faster. Had a nurse midwife for the other 2, best thing we did. Say no to the epesiodimy (sp?)ripping heals faster, after #2 and 3 wife was up the next morning, in jeans moving around doing the paperwork and pitying all of the others who didnt say no.

Oh and simonbs, DONT look at the dialation chart on the wall and wonder if you can ever "measure up"

Ok, just got back from the appointment.

Mom and Baby BS are doing fine (except Mom has been feeling a little miserable the last couple of days). We're going in Thursday night at 1700 for the dialation drug because she is still closed. Inducement is still scheduled for Friday morning around 0600.

I'll let ya'll know something more on Thursday night, maybe.

    Martzkj@msn.com,

I have tried and tried to post the picture, and as you noticed, it didn't work either time. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have just created a website with some pictures of our daughter, Emily. I will give you the web address so you can view her page, because I am having no luck with the images showing up on the message board. Go to: http://www.geocities.com/mypookabear/emmysphotopage.html

Hope your wife is feeling better soon. Those last couple of days are the worst. But it will soon be over, and well worth it. (mrs.martzkj)Keep us posted.

Ok, here goes my take on the inducement. I have four, all induced. Long story, short, dilating the day before will make all the difference in the world. For Mrs. Simon, I found with my third one, in which they dilated the day before, the labor and delivery were not as painful as the other three. Also, believe this or not, I sat Indian style and this was extremely helpful with the labor pains. I read and watched TV as the docs monitored pitocin drip, blood pressure and baby's heart rate. Find the position that is most restful and comfortable for you. Bless you and the miracle you and simonbs have created.

We've been at the hospital, Mrs. is still there, I ran up the street to work for a few.

She's doing fine, feeling normal, no contractions yet.

Just wanted to drop ya'll a line before I go back. Inducement is still 0600. I'll let ya'll know something maybe on Sat.

    Susie,
Thank you. That made us (ok, ME) feel a WHOLE lot better. (I was wondering if maybe I could get the epidural, or maybe a valium, or maybe...)

    Bye.
