Today on the news it was reported that Iran and Iraq are calling for OPEC to stop sellimg oil to nations that are friendly with Israel. If this happens will we be ready for economic set back. This country runs on oil and without it we will fall. Thanks to the liberals Bushes plan to develope wildlife areas to get the oil so we can have a safe guard against a catastrophe like was shot down.

Hahaha......no, there won't be an oil embargo. Do you think Exxon, etc would allow that to happen? They won't lose any money! They'll do like they do during the Gulf War (the one I was in!): Jack up the prices to insane levels, make record profits, and then lower the prices back down BEFORE they really have to start buying more oil!Oh......your "drilling in the wilderness" oil.......six month supply, TOPS. So...let 'em embargo. We don't buy oil directly from them anyway. Their oil is sold to a broker who then sells to everybody. They don't know how much of what is going where. Everybody else in the world is already buying all the oil they can use. Without U.S. $$$ their economies are down the tubes. Same with the Saudi's. They need our $$$ as much as we need their oil. Without U.S. $$$, their economies would implode. In a couple or 3 years, Russia will have the infrastructure to effectively get their oil to market. Then let's see what the OPEC slime does. They'll have oil prices down to $10 a barrel.Mudge the prognosticator

Let me take this brief moment while my computer replicates with "big brother" to remind everyone of all the oil we have access to in the Gulf of Mexico. There's plenty of oil there.

I remember seeing on one of those news programs that the US only gets about 10% of it's oil from the Mideast. The rest mostly comes from Texas, Alaska, Mexico, and South America. On the other hand, allies of ours like Japan and France get about 80% of their oil supply from the Mideast. And since we're umbilicalizationed to those guys, our gas prices are intertwinned.I'm running a pretty hefty fever right now, so my new words need not be considered.

Iraq announced a 30-day cessation of oil exports this morning. Does that answer the question? They claim it's to punish Israel for "terrorism," but I'm sure it's directed at us as well. Gas prices will go up. I'm willing to pay, under these circumstances. It's high time we solved this problem with some new R&D on other sources of energy. We've been screwing around with this problem since the nuclear protests of the late 60s and 70s. Safe new energy supplies should be a priority. I think the Bush team is smart enough to get that, but it will take time.

bullzeye, Is this really a word, or are ya funnin us? I'm not even going to look it up.I hope we do have an oil shortage. I've been ticked for years that the government hasnt spent more money developing alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar energy, as well as more hydroelectric(?) power. We as a nation only perform well when forced to overcome an obstacle, and this oil we live on will not last forever, so why act like it will?

I got an email the other day about what US oil companies buy from the Arabs. They said: Citgo, Sunoco,Conoco, Sinclair and BP/Phillips don't buy Arab oil, and were asking us not to buy from the other companies that did buy Arab oil. Here, we have Citgo, Conoco and Phillips 66,and I have since started only buying gasoline from them. Here's a copy of the email:GASOLINE PRICES I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. This makes no sense to any but the oil companies as the spot price of oil has hardly changed. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas, or curtail our driving. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that really might work. Please read it and join with us if you agree! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded in my town (California). Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing THEIR gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting or limiting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON"T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest ompanies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am... so trust me on this one). How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential did you? Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES AND KEEP THEM DOWN. HIS CAN REALLY WORK! YOU KNOW THEY LOVE HOLIDAYS AND SUMMER TRAVELERS. Be kinder than necessary! Make a good summer! Where to buy gasoline and not support terrorism? This is food for thought, actually Yisrael Medad of the Begin Center sent the following information. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from theSaudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time you fill up the tank, you are sending your money to people who are trying to kill you, me, your family, and your friends. I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from. Major companies that import Middle Eastern oil (for the period 9/1/00 - 8/31/01). Shell 205,742,000 barrelsChevron/Texaco 144,332,000Exxon/Mobil 130,082,000Marathon 117,740,000Amoco 62,231,000 If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil: Citgo 0 barrelsSunoco 0 barrelsConoco 0 barrelsSinclair 0 barrelsBP/Phillips 0 barrels All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and can be easily documented. Refineries located in the U.S. are required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a monthly basis. Keep this list in your car; share it with friends. Stop paying for them to kill us!Jim

Better research a little better....I found that BP is Brittish Petrolium, wich merged with Amoco. Phillips is pretty good, however a little digging showed their ties to Mobil/ Exon....Go figure...My guess is that all of them tap their resorces from all available somewhere down the line. This is a very good Idea here...But I would tend to think that the scope needs to be narrowed considerably in order to really make a difference.

All that is well and good. But here in the Roanoke valley of Virginia.Virtually all the gasoline consumed is pumped out of the same set of tanks. From a tank farm in Montvale VA. How can anyone be certain whether or not the original crude came from the middle east or middle earth?I recieved the same email, the way I read it, it was telling us how to get oil prices down. Not necessarily how to avoid Saudi oil.Cowboy

Based on what I had to pay for gas last week while I was on vacation, you would think there already was an oil embargo...Avg. cost for reg. was 153.9 in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota....
