A great morning at the range.......

Headed over to the indoor range that I frequent early this a.m. and participated in a defensive pistol course. I retired almost five years ago and most of my range time has been limited to whatever drills I can do shooting in a single lane.

It was great to engage multiple targets and move around. Magazine changes, low light shooting etc....great time with a group of experienced shooters and an instructor that knows his stuff.....and there were lots of doughnuts!![:D]

Anyone else getting some shooting in this weekend ?

My first day at an organized range yesterday (at 78 years). Most of my shooting has been informal plinking, in the woods. Getting harder to do around here and requires a DNR permit at $35. Membership in Evergreen Sportsmen's Club is $50 annually for an old guy, and $5 per visit. Very light participation yesterday, and I was free to pretty much do as I wanted. Fired about 100 rounds 9mm and 50 of .45 ACP, and got a good idea of how my firearms performed. Rangemaster was laid-back and accomodating, but enforced rules (I was with 2 young hot-rod guys). Good place. I will be going frequently, and recommend it to anyone. I may participate in more regimented exercises later, when I'm used to the place. Their specialty seems to be trap shooting, which, at this time is of no interest.

The Rangemaster quoted the rules, which included no shooting at wildlife, with the WDFW penalties of confiscation of your firearm, your car and being charged with a felony. Halfway through the afternoon he had to close the range because of a fawn grazing in the line of fire.

I'm also retired and avoid ANY range on weekends unless I'm shooting a match. Weekends are when all the working stiffs go to the range. Not for me.

Last trip to the 200 yard range, two yearling Deer were playing out about 100 yards. Mama was in the treeline. They showed up at the tail end of a target change. The RO called a ceasefire and we all just enjoyed the antics of the 'kids'.

Two months from now? Might be a different story

I agree on the weekend range usage, I avoid it completely. Today this class started at 8 a.m. and was over before they opened the doors for the public at 10. The guys I shot with were all veterans, retired LEO's. Etc. I do not like to shoot with the inexperienced unless I am the one instructing ....

I have not shot any matches in years....but I had such a good time today I Intend to sign up for the next one they hold next month.
