Sabots are a smaller "caliber" which have a surrounding material of plastic, which drops away after exiting the muzzle, and are supposed to perform better in rifled barrels. I don't shoots slugs except for goofing around, and I don't have slug barrels on any of my shotguns. I do know that I fired a "Copper Solid" into a stack of wet telephone books, and it did not expand at all, but the "old-fashioned" slug was about an inch in dia. when I dug it out. These were fired from a smooth-bore Wingmaster.

The foster slugs (the cheaper ones )are for use in smooth bores. The sabot slugs are best used in barrels that are rifled and give better acuracy.

The difference in accuracy is worth the price as long as you have a rifled slug barrel. When I used to sight in with Foster slugs, I was really pleased when I could keep five shots on a paper plate at 50 yards. With Sabot slugs and a rifled slug barrel, I can consistantly get five shots into less than 1.5 inches shooting unsupported. Off a rest even better. In my experimenting with Sabots through a smooth bore barrel, I have found little or no real improvement in accuracy.
