My agency hired an accountant (read: hatchet man) to the tune of $50 grand/year to cut the fat from the company. Yes, the logic of this escapes me, too.
Anyhow, after all our fringies have been cut, bottom-feeders that we are, and we are still getting .21/mile for our milage (requests for an increase are dismissed, as the agency had 5 vehicles. 150 emloyees, 5 vehicles, you do the math), "hatchet man" informs my department that we will be now held to a strict 85% productivity standard. Not a big deal, except for the fact that our travel time will no longer be considered "productive time." We live in a very rural community, at least 30 min. between most points, sometimes up to an hour, hour and a half. Now, the agency does get paid for our time, regardless of whether it is travel or not, however, we do not get credit for it toward our productivity.
I'm trying to figure out how this is legal. They are getting paid for our time, travel or not, yet it will be held against us as non-productive time.
I feel we are getting screwed. Any insights?

You think you have it bad, DWS has been locked out! Don
Say it ain't so, Don....
sorry no help here, but it does remind me of an episode of wkrp, the old lady hired a guy like that, and everyone got out of character, his report was so far off because of their charades, possibly the best episode ever

Not at all off point.
there is no way in freezing hell i would put up with that!
...but about the only thing you can all do is stand together and demand change...as a group! individualy you wont get a hearing...hold a group meeting with your boss and tell him/her you want change or you will all "consider your options"
there are very few buisnesses that could survive if all of its employees jacked up, but if only one or two of you try to get the system changed you will be out of a job!
you are all being screwed big time!

Gee, thanks...Perhaps I should have said, ANYONE WITH ANY SUGGESTIONS...[:)]
thats about it tomahawk..everyone turn up for work when they know it is going to be busy...tell the bosses what you want, when they say no...just all say."we quit, see ya later"..and go home...i reckon 30 minutes and the phones will start to ring [:)]
The problem with that is ... everyone wont stick together.
I've seen it happen ... the first time was back in high school when people wern't risking their job, a few would give ... then a few would be made example of and the rest would cave ... and it was over.
? otherwise, you'll find an excuse.
who knows it may work
standard. Like you I was working in a very rural area, the office was about 25 minutes from the area I was assigned.
I kept a record of my travel time as I had to report to the main office everyday before heading to the towns where I was assigned.
We had to keep a log of our time and billable hours. The first time they called me in because I did not have enough hours, I showed them the log and they backed off. We were getting .21 cents per mile, but I hate to tell you that was 27 years ago.
The guys in my office complain now abut 50.5 cent per mile.
To tell the truth, I left that agency because of the nearly impossible standards. For the last 25 + years they have had a parade of employees in and out. My advice, start looking for a better spot if you can.
