Company that Obama said would rehire workers if stimulus passed plans to open new factory -- in China... 1mad.gif

More stimulus money going to create jobs outside the USA. Caterpillar should have to pay back stimulus $ they got at triple digit interest for this, but then again Obama will just waste it on GM, Unions or some other sinkhole. I am so sick of paying for the demise of the American economy. You cant trust a word out of Washington these days.

If this were the only factory that CAT had then I could see why the negative comments.

But what about free market? How about global competitiveness?

Whats wrong with CAT having a factory in China? Please explain.

Caterpillar products and components are manufactured 110 facilities worldwide. 51 plants are located in the United States and 59 overseas plants are located in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, the People's Republic of China, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa and Sweden.
less than 1/4 of Cats total workforce is in the USA. They are one of the few corperations that will not cow down to the unions. You walk out and refuse to work they will bring in other company employes,After a time if you still refuse to work and stay on strike ,,they will move the plant to where people wish to work.

Why shouldn't they have plants in China? Every other major corporation does. China is friendly towards companies that manufacture. The US is hostile towards them. Thank the Sierra Club and all the environmental pretenders and your own representativces that take heir money and pass anti-manufacturing laws. Not to mention high taxes.

    How?

    You forgot to mention this:

quote:Earlier this month, Caterpillar opened its new plant in North Little Rock, Ark., where motor graders will be manufactured.

Caterpillar announced plans for the North Little Rock plant in January 2009, when it announced it would move motor grader production there from Decatur. The company plans to expand mining truck production at the Decatur plant.

Your reporting like CNN or MSNBC. Only mentioning what pisses you off instead of showing that the company has also created jobs in Little Rock, right here in the good 'ol USA.

Smart business if you ask me. The mini ex's that they plan to make in the new China plant arent even manufactured here to begin with. They come out of Japan and another plant in China. And they were doing this before the stimulus.

Caterpillar has been a big part of my families well being for my entire life. Im glad to see them expand. I hope it continues.

Also, if you remember right, they spoke out against the health care bill too.

I think youre barking up the wrong tree M88. IMNSHO

Its not the same kind of union we have here,,in those countries workers and most governments understand corporations are in business to make money,,if they dont make money,,they go out of business. if they go out of business everyone is out of a job,,Our unions think corporations are in business to supply them with jobs,,they dont care in the company has to run in the red as long as they get theirs.to hell with the stockholder and the corporation.Cat moved here to Arkansas because we are a right to work state, workers do not have to join the union if they do not wish to..

This move has much to do with the health care bill, They warned us and we didn't listen. Obama and his crew ordered them to justify their message in front of congress.

I am opening my mind to other view points. I hate losing American jobs but have come to understand it is just part of what we must endure to fix this country. Maybe if jobs left faster more people would realize you can't create prosperity by punishing success.

Hats off to China for creating a positive business environment perhaps one day they will rise from the dark ages and the people there will be free. They are working toward free enterprise (slowly I know) and America is destroying it.

Wake up people. If we had allowed Caterpillar to prosper from their success instead of regulating, taxing, and mandating their health-care insurance they would have rewarded us with more
American jobs. But we didn't and we deserve it if they pull out totally.

I grew up in central Illinois...when I was a kid, Cat was huge with 35,000 plus employees as well as dozen of other companies that fed parts to them.

Now there are less than 5000 workers there. You can try and blame the company...but anyone that lived around there will tell you the Union and Anti-business government of Illinois caused them to leave.

Still have family working for Cat and own their stock.....
