Well, Issy has come and gone. Biggest problem was the surge combined with the normal high tide. Got nearly a foot of rain also. Understand quite a few home on the beach are going to have problems with their pilings. Had 12-15 foot waves rolling in. I know this makes me sound like an * but I really have a hard time feeling sorry for folks that build that close to the gulf knowing that sooner or later a storm will come. Kinda like building at the end of the runway and then complaining about the noise. Now they will all be crying "our beach is gone" and expect the taxpayers to rebuild it when in fact the beach is supposed to move in and out. Done it for years and will keep doing it. It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature.
The surge and the south wind kept the water backed up in the rivers and creeks causing quite a bit of flooding. We got a goodly amount at the house but not as much a Georges in '98.
Here are some pic's to give an idea. The first shows the water in the yard near the creek. You can see the hand rail that leads onto the pier. The ramp is a couple of feet below water.
In the closeup you can see the steep angle of the gangplank. At a normal mid tide it is about 4-6 inches BELOW level on the boat end.
The was from the bridge. The horizontal planks are the back support of a bench built on the pier.
All in all we were very lucky. Issy could have built back up to a catagory 2 or 3 storm if the conditions had been right. With the ground still soaked from Hanna, 100+ mph winds would have taken a lot of trees. We lost one oak that was about 90% dead anyway. Didn't cause any damage.
Well, we have Kyle and Lili working now. Don't think Kyle poses any threat but Lili? If she manages to get herself organized - who knows.
Just another bit of excitement along the Redneck Riviera.
