A new to me Rifle....range report with pics

I had my eye on a used .223 Savage rifle at a local gunshop for a while and finally broke a few weeks ago. Finally had a chance to put a little range time in with it today....

Savage 16F with a Tasco 4-16X Scope. Hope to do a little yote hunting with it this fall/winter....

The first five shots were the ones to the the right. After adjustments, the last fifteen rounds are the holes in the middle. Target was at 100 yards using Winchester 45Gr. JHP. Need another range time with it but for the first time out I am really happy.

amazing rifles for the money aren't they? I bought my son a .243 with the accutrigger and bedded it in a Boyds stock. Darn thing will put remington 100gr core-lokt pills into the same hole at 100yds. Almost no reason to handload for it.

So much for the theory that Tasco scopes are junk.[;)] The 6-24x on my .220 Swift is hands-down one of the best scopes I've ever used. Nice group, and a beautiful rifle too. Looks like you're gonna enjoy that combo.[^]

When I bought it I figured I would be getting a different scope. I now do not see any reason to do that..[:)]

My brother thought the same thing with his 12FV, it was shooting .70 groups with factory ammo. Then he tried a load of VV N133 and a Berger 72gr with a nosler case, groups dropped to .25, it was good, now it is great.

For the money the best rifle. I have a .308 Savage and of all the rifles I have it is my favorite. Not a lot invested in it so not scared to use it and it is amazingly accurate. I don't think I have missed a shot with it at something within range I shot at.

If anyone thinks Tascos are unbreakable send them to me. If they last 10 shots from my Rem 760 GameBlaster 30-06 while benched then you have a good scope. I have not yet found a single Tasco that 760 could not kill [:D]

I know it's not much comparison to a .223 or .308, but I picked up a Savage .17 Mach 2 with a scope (Can't remember off the top of my head what kind) a few years back, and I love that gun! I think I only paid around $200 for it.. I probably shoot it more than my 10-22. Real nice affordable rifles.

Nice rifle and good shooting. Thats a shiny rifle for coyote hunting you might need to paint it or tape it if you are going to be calling the dogs.

My coyote rifle is a camo painted Rem 788 in 6mm Rem.
