TWO GUNS

edited August 2003 in General Discussion
There is two guns that I have never owned and with my age I have just about waited too long. I have always wanted a M1 Garand and a Colt 1911. When I was young I couldn't afford one and as the years passed the need (want) grew dimmer. The last five or six years the need started growing again. If I obtain both guns I won't have anything to wish for anymore because I have more guns than anyone needs now. Strange dilemma don't you think?

...Rosie, no sense in going to the nursing home wondering what it would be like to own two of the classics. Lot's of people out there speculate about what "might have been"....live dangerous and go for the guns. [:)]

Buy them now Rosie. Worry about "what happens if....." later, when it happens, or when it does NOT happen.

    You're killing me Rosie.
You waited this long and have paid your dues in life.Buy yourself the nicest M1 you can find. You'll have to sift through a ton of junk before you find a gem. Then get a Baer 45 and send it to the engraver's and have them give it the works.
I just kast week found the Garand I've been hunting almost daily for six years. My Colt 1911 had to go when the wolves came howling at the door a few winters back, but one day I hope to get another of that era and condition.
The only guns I count are the one I just bought and the next one I am buying. Two guns.

But you see if I buy those guns I won't have anything to wish for anymore. I have owned just about every gun there is at least once. (thats stretching it a little) and if I have nothing to wish for I just as well sit down and give up. Eyes are at the point that I couldn't really do them justice at the range. Carried a M1 through basic and a carbine after that. The M16 came along and I still carried the carbine. Still love that little gun. Just rambling and trying to talk my self out of buying another gun. As I said, Rosie the nut!

...after you get these two, start a new quest to obtain full autos...when your eyesight begins failing, just spray in the general vicinity.

Went the rock and roll route years ago REM and soon got tired of that. Know what I had the most fun with? .22 long rifle! Had an old car out back and I shredded it with that .22! Don't anyone ever tell me a .22 won't go through a car door. I know better! I bought twenty bricks at a time when I had it and believe it is almost impossible to shoot out a .22 barrel with lead bullets and regular cleaning. Saw that barrel start to glow one evening and the rifleing was still great!

Seems like every year I buy a couple more 22s. Don't know what my fascination is with them, but it is definitely there. My favorite is a single shot target model Stevens circa 1889. Sit in the orchard all day long one shot at a time thinking about the guys that won contests with such guns.Thinking about simple times...plink...plink...plink

Mine didn't go plink-plink- BD. It went rat-a-tat-tat at a calculated 1600 a minute! Wish I still had it. My favorite plinking rifle of all time was a 514 Remington.
