I was thinking...I can't run anymore, I am a skier, and I love to shoot, what sport can I participate in that would allow me to do both? Biathlon.Just wondering if anybody has any experience with this sport.Brian

Can't say I have any experience with Biathalon, wish there were more coverage of the shooting sports when Olympic coverage comes on. Heard about some guys once that tried a Bike-athalon....they would ride mountain bikes and go from station to station with air rifles.Maybe a NASCAR event could be scheduled for the slightly over weight....as you drive around the track, take a few shots with your favorite handgun....wait, I guess they already do something like that in the bigger cities....

While in the guard several years ago. 70 something, we went to the guard championships. Most of the team could ski pretty well but couldn't shoot worth a darn. During the awards ceremony at the end, our team was given a plaque with a paper punch attached. Have not had the opportunity to try it since. Did participate in some winter rendezvous though. Wearing buckkins, moccocins, and snow shoes had to run a course and fire with our smokepoles, throw knife and hawk, and start fire with flint and steel. That was fun.

I wonder how many people here have gotten into the "primitive rendezvous" activities in their local area. There isn't much to be said for that type of activity where I'm at but I did know a few people that really got into it back in UPstate NY.

Pre 1840 Rendezvous can be fun. The larger ones usually have the "know it alls" or more commonly know and the "purests." I use to do a lot of it before moving here (NC). Too many bugs and heat. I've been to several Western National Rendezvous and had a great time. It is a great sight to see a vally full of a thousand lodges. Of course, you have port a pots that need servicing, every other vender on traders row is selling indian fry bread and you have dog soldiers wondering around to ensure your camp is "primitive." I miss it though. You get to meet some great people, do some different types of shooting and generally have a great time. It's especially fun at the smaller local "shoots." After you get to know the people and learn the rules you are pretty well accepted. I used to mold a thousand round balls bor my main rifle and a few hundred for the others each year. Went through a lot of black powder, a lot of RWS caps and several flints as well. I sure miss it. Maybe I need to get back into it. As I'm typing here, I am talking myself into it. Try it, you'll like it. Pre-1840 style of weapons, dress, etc. is generally required. So have fun.
