How many of you people own and use a Beta VCR ?
I find most people I ask don't even know what it is.

I remember the format. Didn't it pretty much die out by the mid 80's

....It's sitting in the closet with my 4 and 8 track car tape decks, reel-to-reel tape recorder, and lava lamp.....

Rembrant,You should put it up for auction.Depending on the make and model they get pretty good bids ,but shipping is on the high side.

Mine isn't working anymore but I have a bunch of tapes I would like to copy. I had a B&W camera that I took a lot of pictures of my kids with. I went to a place that copies them but for some reason they wouldn't copy.
If you want one that noone has heard of I have a portable VCR that uses the Technicolor format. It is a fairly good size recorder & a
seperate camera. Several years ago I bought a new battery for it & the only place in the world to buy it was from "Mad Man Muntz" as he had bought up the manufacturers entire supply of tapes & parts when they went out of bussiness.

....I've been burnt a few times on changing formats. Bought an 8 track tape recorder thinking it would beat out the cassette....

Anyone remember the early video disc's.....movies were available on a disc the size of a LP record...

Also have a Bell & Howell super 8mm movie camera....then there were the cameras that used "flash cubes".....

Good thing guns don't change as frequently as audio/video equipment...

I had an excellent Marantz Beta VCR with a wired remote and hi-fi magnetic stereo sound. It gave an even better presentation than you can get on VHS. When it broke down, I repaired it once, but it broke down again. I finally dumped it. Now those HQ Beta tapes are either in storage or gone too. I had thought for a while about getting another Beta machine, like a Sony BetaMax, to show those tapes, but very few Beta machines had stereo sound, let alone the 5.1 and 6.1 surround we are becoming spoiled by today.

Gotta love my ATI All In Wonder 128 Pro Radeon video card and Adobe Premier. Just do a video capture and "fix 'er up" in Premier then using some really good "burning" software I make my own DVDs and video disks. Great way to fix up older movies. The same can be done with pics if you have a good way to transfer them to the computer. It also pays to have these 4 80 gig Maxtor drives in here also!

Beta is still a viable broacast format. It's more stable than VHS,plus has other advantages that only TV broadcast engineers would appreciate. My fiance bought part of a video production facility from the hospital she works at, in an auction. She was the only bidder. She only bid $100 and got the lot.In it was a broadcast Sony Beta deck.
We sold it on that famous online auction site(you know the one)for just over $3500!
So don't short change those old Beta machines just yet!

Beta is supposed to be a better format than vhs and was very popular in the middle east and parts of asia. What killed it?To stream line production cost most major adult video companies only released their movies on vhs.CW

Had one 'cause the technology was supposed to be better; also had the 4-track tape deck & phono system; and the first new technology I bought was a WIRE recorder!! That's what I get for listening to the "experts."
