There were a number of different tribal groupings besides the Hebrews (who claim descendency from Abram, a person from Ur--modern day Iraq!). These groups were Egyptians, Moabites, Ammorites, Canaanites, Philistines (also known as Sea Peoples), and others. When Judah was destroyed (the lost 10 Tribes were deported), foreigners were imported into the country from various lands as well. They all intermarried (including the Hebrews) and some of these descendants are today called Palestinians.

Please note that "Arab" refers to persons from Arabia and is now used, more or less, to describe persons of Muslim belief. Noteworthy is the fact that the Iranians are not Arabs, altho Muslim, and are considered to be Aryans.

Also please note that the Israelis Jews called Ashenkai (sp?) are NOT descended from Jews but were converts to Judaism from Christianity when the Muslims took over their country. After the Christians regained the country, they left to Russia and East Europe but were not permitted to reconvert to Christianity. Sharon and many members of the Likud are Ashenkai.

    Hope this helps. [:D]

Yep- up until 880 BC, that whole area was Israel, occupied by the twelve tribes. Then it was split into two kingdoms- the Southern Kingdom, occupied by the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, with some Levite priests, and the Northern Kingdom, composed of the other ten tribes.

Rocklobster: quote:Yep- up until 880 BC, that whole area was Israel, occupied by the twelve tribes. Along with the tribal groups mentioned above. Irael NEVER controlled the entire area.

BTW, Jerusalem was a Jebusite city (Cannanite) that was conquered by David; the original inhabitants were killed/deported and the Hebrews occupied their homes--which is the same thing taking place this very day in the same area. [;)]

Nevertheless, the area was referred to as Israel, and was comprised almost in toto by the twelve tribes.
