Can anyone recommend an ISP in MSP?

My first month of MSN blows! I'm looking for a new ISP in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I thought about NetZero but I just saw a post in the board saying they couldn't connect recently. Any recommendations or experiences will be greatly appreciated!GL

Get this, NetZero now charges a fee! My parents use AOL in MSP. They are resistant to change in life so I can't speak from their experiences.I think the NRA now offers internet service. What part of the Twin Cities do you live in? I grew up about 3 blocks west of the Mississippi and 1.5 miles south of Lake Street near Minnehaha Falls. Actually, my parents still live there (adjacent to the South Campus of Minnehaha Academy). I used to kick footballs from a tee at the MA football field across the street.[This message has been edited by idsman75 (edited 01-29-2002).]

I have net zero on my laptop traveling work pc and used it just today without any trouble and I have never paid a fee. I have used it for at least 2 years but now have a cox cable modem at home which comes with 7 mailboxes. The one thing that netzero has done is they have cut the free hours down to like 10 per month but it is still free.Rich

They charge a fee for the area where I live. I should have been more explicit. Sioux City isn't exactly a one-horse town. I don't know why it's free in some places and you have to pay a fee in others.

Yea that is wierd but what can you do! I don't mind so much the banner screen as the windows that just keep popping up. I sure am glad I have the high speed stuff at home now!Rich

If pop-ups are a problem pick up "Pop-Up Killer" - it's freeware and does a great job of killing that junk. Be advised it does have conflicts w/ Norton Crash Guard and possibly some other common apps. For a good ISP that is firearms friendly, check out Outdoors.Net - less $ than AOL & $1 of that goes to the firearms / hunting / outdoors organization of your choice.

idsman75 - I'm up in St. Paul/Roseville area. Larpenteur Ave - Lexington Parkway. However, I'm a transplant, been out here since 94. And a 'cheesehead' at that :-)[This message has been edited by GreenLantern (edited 01-29-2002).]

Greenie --Earthlink has consistently gotten the highest ratings as the best ISP for a long time. They cost no more than MSN and the interface is much, much friendlier on all levels. You don't even have to use their software if you don't want to -- if you're a serious user you can stick with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. Also, Earthlink offers access that is so efficient (and devoid of advertising) that they have the ability to set you up on a machine as old as a 486 and still run. Try that with Juno or NetZero and you'll be locked up in no time. My brother tried the $10 a month NetZero recently and when his e-mail stopped working and he couldn't get any decent customer service, he dropped them. So did my nephew. MSN is what I got with my new computer and now I'm locked into this piece of crap for 18 more months, or pay a big penalty to get out (twice what I saved even if I don't use the time). Sounds like loan sharking to me, and I told Best Buy so. Anyway, MSN Explorer is a lousy browser for a serious user and if anyone wants a first rate ISP I can heartily recommend Earthlink. You can even talk to a live person when you sign up and tell them exactly what you want to do, and they'll help you do it. I finally got my elderly parents off that hellish Juno and onto Earthlink, and Mom called to thank me profusely because it's working so well for her -- and they're computer novices on a 486. I felt truly sorry for them when I saw them wading through all those ads, and not even being able to browse the internet because the Juno software didn't have room to run its own browser.

Try Outdoors Unlimited. They charge about $20 a month, but part of that is donated to the national gun-rights organization of your choice. You can find them by doing a search on the internet.
