Mrs. Zulu and I went to the Bob and Rocco gun show today, and we met up with Mike Wiskey and Mrs. Wiskey.
We spent about 2 hours walking around the show looking at the tables and talking about guns and our experiences in the Army.
I might have to borrow a truck this summer to haul my 55-gallon drum grill up to Mike's place for a day of grilling and shooting (if I have any ammo).
Mike, as always, it was nice to see you again, and nice to meet Mrs. Wiskey.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

The funny thing is that just to give a small guy the business, I would have paid $40 or even $50 a piece (for the better ones) if he just worked with me. Instead I will probably see the same guy, with the same little bin, full of his unsold merchandise.

Personally, I lost all hope at finding a "deal" at any gunshows. I had a crazy notion that I could find a deal on a hard to find mag. that was already selling on a website NIW for $39 each. Well I found the mags at a couple of shows, beat all to hech for a wonderfull low price of $85 each. I asked the seller if he would reconsider the price to which he, not so politely explained that, the mag in question is one of the rarest around and the price reflects that. Needless to say I went with the $39 mags, what left the bad taste in my mouth is that it seems that dealers are less likely to haggle a price than in days past. There seems to be a take it or leave it attitude growing in local shows that to me, defeats the whole purpose of attending a gunshow.

I think we must have seen the same dealer. he had two mags for a iver johnson 22 cal M1 carbine and wanted $125 for each clip
that is more than I paid for the gun and two clips
would not negotiate price on clips(said they were rare and he could get that for them)
so I told him "NOT FROM ME"and walked on it seemed like the new gun dealers were more apt to haggle.

I have a good time talkin guns with the oldtimers.
While talking to a man about a .22 hornet martini he asked if i build rifles, and I do so the answer was yes.
Unprovoked he reached into a cardboard box and produced a minty BSA
recever...no wood no barrel, you want this he asked,Sure how much?I asked. He said 175.00,I said it was a little more than i wanted to spend and he asked what i would pay,I said 100.00. Well that man did'nt have to haggle could've told me to go on,but he asked me to sit with him for a bit,he was a older fella in his 70s.he told me of the 218 mashburn bee and other rifles he has made in his time. A welt of information this man,I told him after about a hour of sittin there chatting and looking at guns that i must move on,he put the recever in my hand and said,"If I make it to the next show I want to see a purty rifle"....That was it no money just some time spent with a oldtimer that may know his time is about up.I could'nt thank him enough...He said "go on boy,you got work to do...I hope he is there in Feb.So gun show are what you make out of them, sometimes you make a deal sometimes you make a friend.............
