your late, posted it as it came out.
This is one post that I don't mind seeing mutiples of[:)][:)]
What makes it great is they are already talking about other gun bans. I personally would like to see gun bans lifted on schools and factories. Also would like to see states like Cali, Ill nad other messed up states set straight.
2. Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited.
It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any
manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed
weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment
or state analogues. The Court's opinion should not be taken to cast
doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by
felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms
in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or
laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of
arms. Miller's holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those
"in common use at the time" finds support in the historical tradition
of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.
It's not perfect, but intresting reading.
Pp. 54-56.
I'm very glad for the ruling, maybe this will outlaw some of those other crooked places in this country.
Thank the Lord for those that voted in our favor.
I guess this means it is OK for CA to make all their lousy restrictions.[}:)]
Trinity +++
Clouder..
The NRA announced that they are filing a lawsuit against Chicago and several suburbs for violating the rights of gun owners.
Excellent[:)][^]
Sad we have 4 * supreme court judges.
It really is.
These are supposed to be intelligent people and they can't even interpret a simplr sentence correctly.
Whew!
Lots of good things mentioned, but they only addressed "one" item directly.
The fact that the DC gun ban was unconstitutional in terms of "the home."
Heller evidently did not complain about the licensing requirement, so that was not even taken up in the decision, and will stand.
It was made clear that a handgun is the firearm of "choice" for self protection, and stated the reasons why.
Somehow the mayor has been told that this decision still allows them to ban "semi-auto" handguns, but nowhere did I read anything about the different types of "handguns."
Only the word handgun was used in reference,.....not revolver, or semi-auto, so where this opinion the mayor has is confusing.
A good start,........but a long way to go.
The best thing is it is now precedent from the court.
What hasn't been mentioned is that the District of Columbia ( DC ) is Federal jurisdiction not state jurisdiction. I foresee the Mayor getting sued by anyone and everyone after he imposes any type of registration of anything. He is not in a state but Federal jurisdiction.
See above, or read the opinion!
This case only addressed Heller's complaint. He did not raise an argument against licensing, so that was not even part of the decision.
All it said in the "decision" was that the DC gun ban was too restrictive, and therefore unconstitutional.
It allowed for handguns in the home without disassembly, or trigger locks, so as to be readily accessible for self defense.
I believe the flood gate has been opened to several lawsuits against gun laws and the Heller case was the leverage needed to win many of them.
There was a man from the Brady Foundation on TV this morning. I haven't read the decision, but assume he has. He said although he was disappointed with the decision, he was glad that single question was settled so that now we can get on with closing the gun show loophole and outlawing military style firearms.
I hope he was talking out of his *, but I suspect this decision might not be all we think it is.
The celebrations may be a little premature.

I am in agreement with you. States will hold the tale of the gun.
Thank the Lord for those that voted in our favor.
Amen to that!!!! i just heard the glorious news on the radio, and literally let out a "Thank God" I almost couldnt wait to get back to the office(I was on my way back from being in the field) to check the forum. I knew there would be some talk.
They also imply that that the Constitution is outmoded and that they (the LibSoc crowd) should be able to amend it from the bench.
The celebrations may be a little premature.

When aren't they.

Agree,.....this is a very limited decision, and left open many items.
The biggest point that I read, was short of the dissenting opinions, at least the INDIVIDUAL rtkba has been decided, and is now precedent.
The saddest thing to me is that we even have to defend our 2nd amendment rights as individuals. It's VERY frustrating to me that no other amendment is consider for the GROUP, MILITIA, etc. They are INDIVIDUAL rights, not necessarily PROVIDED by the constitution but protected. Our rights to defend ourselves are GOD GIVEN rights, since the beginning of time and ONLY those tyrants who choose to oppress the people and deny their rights have ever tried to take that away from man.
Now as a result of the most liberal thinkers and money used against it, suddenly the 2nd amendment is NOT for individuals.
Oh, I am pleased the high court ruled this way, I am disturbed the vote was so close. If the 4 "no" votes had a brain in their head, they would have voted and it would be 9-0.
Let's see how quickly gun sales explode in the DC area. I'm also excited to see how quickly many other BANS are removed. Sad day for Brady campaign and all those who hate our guns. [:)]
Yep, PRAISE GOD for FIVE sensible (at least in this case) justices. Now about those FOUR MORONS...I suggest they ALL be forced to live in one of those "crime-ridden" urban areas they opined should not have the right to keep handguns, without benefit of bodyguards, baseball bats, or even locks on their doors. Wonder how long it would take to make "believers" out of them.
DITTO!!! [;)][;)][:D][:D]
We won, but we didn't beat the spread.....
I think you have summed it up nicely. I hope the celebrators are right. We'll see.
