Also we did not have news like we do now always hearing about it. It may have happened in the past we just did not add it up like we do now. Know several from WWII that lived with their demons. My Dad Included.
One WWII vet was a real hero Ira Hayes He lived in a bottle when he came home.
Folks from VN went to the woods to live alone. Lots of the Hob's in the 50's and early 60's Were WWII and Korea vets.
So its nothing new. At least now some get the care they need. We do stil lose way to many.
Support your local veterans hotline. It matters.
and i think generation x thats plays video games think they are hard * because the have racked up scores of kills and truly believe they could handle doing it in real life, then put in real combat where they cannot level up or have spare lives shocks they hell out of them and when they take or see a life taken it sets their self destruction on a dark path
Promises made by recruters end up not being true.
Expactations too high
Adrenalin rush gone upon coming home
Multiple deployments
Rules Of Engagement forcing them to be police instead of combat soldiers
Not knowing who the enemy is, he is dressed as a civillian
These are some of the things I have heard from soldiers
I don't think that people are any different today than in previous wars. Nothing in civilian life can prepare you for constant threats to you life. There's nowhere that you can feel really safe, & the stress continues for months, sometimes years. Mentally, our troops may be pushed beyond their ability to cope with reality.
A big difference today is that > 30% of our military is involved in combat operations, where, in prior wars, only 10% of the military were actually involved in combat; the rest provided support. Plus, wounded soldiers are surviving injuries that would have been fatal in the past, but find themselves challenged when they return to civilian life.
With a shortage of mental health professionals, the VA has been forced to push veterans with mental issues out the door with bottles of drugs, when most also need long term therapy. We are failing to take care of our troops, & we need to stay out of other countries' problems until we can address the needs of all of our veterans.

I believe that you are referring to "Gulf War Syndrome".

....good analysis ....modern communications is the villain...[:(]
Certainly, ops tempo, deployments, unaccompanied tours overseas, and extended sea duty are factors compromising relationships.
Why is it different than now?
Systematic destruction of our culture, glamourization of promiscuity and alternate lifestyles, and denigration of Christian values and mores by liberal DEMOCRATS and their allies in the media.
Now with family support dwindling as was said wives leaving their husbands due to increased number of deployments. Also most do not attend church. Noticed this while I was still in. Knew very few that attended church. Maybe a couple of Catholics and one Mormon that was it out of 20 years.
Thanks for the replies, everyone. Just looking for a reason to blame.
sorry joe [V]
we also must keep in mind that previous wars where also durring the draft, apples and oranges in my opinion, something else is going on with our youth

War is hell. What more reason do you to need for blame
That's said, the young adults now days have no idea of the reality of war. Of course nobody ever did, but the older generations had somewhat of an idea. The coddling that the Liberals have done for children, and the video games of having to shoot somebody 50 times before they die, creates a fantasy that the young adults have about reality, so when they're go into actual combat they're not prepared for it. Like I said nobody ever is really prepared for it, but if you have an idea what's going to happen you're a little better prepared for it.
Modern war is even more hellish for the drama facing new warriors facing the psychic blows of todays theaters of what is over there and returning to what is the reality of the return to home life.
God be with our vets past present and future. Its not easy.
Bless our vets !
