    You're naive.

We just burn cars to celebrate a football win (or loss).

The repressive nature of Islam makes sexual assault on Western women the acceptable outlet for frustration. Apparently a non-Moslem woman can be assumed a whore.

If you think rape is a Muslim phenomenon, you've got blinders on.

Rape is a sadly universal phenomenon and happens everywhere with alarming frequency. At home, we tend to blame the victims, especially if they were in the military.

Here's a quote from a forum member about he issue of women being raped:

quote:What I am saying is any woman that puts herself in that situation can and will be raped.....most women are raped because of posturing, and when you ask to serve with men, your stating your preference is men..How many women have you seen raped in a womens environment? If your in a mans environment your putting yourself in to a position of being sexed.....its an animal world we live in...when you cut through all the(BS) laws and ideas,we are people with basic animal instincts..

It would seem, in fact, that rather than rape and celebration going hand-in-hand, it would be rape and spin go hand in hand. It's outrageous when it suits our purposes, but something to be quietly ignored or excused when it doesn't.[xx(]

The link posted by EMM certainly has an interesting point of view.

I've read hundreds of interviews of Russian WW2 veterans, and the subject of women serving in the combat arms, often comes up. The vets are candid about events, but female Russian troops seem to never have been molested. They were respected. Some individual relationships were formed, usually between Officers and Staff members, but these often resulted in marriage. Assaults of any kind on a female soldier were extremely rare, and were summarily dealt with by an Officer with a Tokarev.

Once Soviet forces entered Germany, license was granted for 'reprisals-in-kind' against female civilians, for the depredations committed by German troops, but this was only in some units, and not for long. Some reasons were practical, such as that being infected with social diseases reduced manpower when and where it was most sorely needed. One Scout Officer recounted how he and some others observed two intoxicated Soviet Officers chasing a German woman, with an apparent intent to rape her, when a Field Marshal (whom he declined to name), happened to appear in his staff car. The FM exited the car, and asked what was going on. He then approached the two Officers, questioned them briefly, and then shot them both, with his pistol. He ordered that the Officers be buried at the spot, and that their identity papers be buried with them, commenting that their families would only be informed that they had gone missing in action and that they would never know the true circumstances of their death. But I am digressing, as this no longer deals with female soldiers.

Yes and no. Is rape and sexual assault a problem in America and in all countries? Yes it is. Are women treated the same way in America as they are in Egypt. No.

Egypt has a long and well-deserved reputation as a place that is very dangerous for women, and western women in particular. I have a friend who works for the federal government as a lawyer and she's traveled several times to Egypt. Every woman gets a briefing about how she needs to stay very close to the males in the group, how sexual assault and grabbing and groping are very common, and how western women are viewed as extremely promiscious. When she and her co-workers walk down the street they are surrounded by male co-workers and embassy staff, and they usually try to get Egyptian police to escort them as well. They need this level of security in the best part of town, in the middle of the day, walking to meetings with Egyptian government officials.

Sorry, but this is not the way things are in America. Are women sometimes attacked in America? Yes, but we are far, far ahead of how things are in Egypt.
