the more I like dealing with uptight PITAs.

Trinity's post about the guy who ripped him off made me remember a few things. At a gunshow I bought a used Glock off Trader Jerry who is active in the Old Dominion gun show circuit. I took it home and quickly realized that one of the mags was junk and wouldn't feed. I took it back the next day and he said, "Oh, sorry, just give me your name and address and I'll mail you a new one." Could I get a receipt, I asked. "Oh don't worry," he said, "I'll send it to you. I'm real easy to deal with." Yeah, even after several calls I never got the magazine.

A few years ago I had some repairs done on the truck. I'd like the old parts put in the bed, I told the guy. "No problem," he said, "I'm real easy to deal with." I pay over the phone and go to pick up the truck late at night when I can get a ride to the shop. There's one part in the bed of the truck, despite having four different things fixed. I call the next day and ask about the other parts. "Don't worry about it," I'm told. Could I come in and have you show me what you fixed, I ask. "I'm real busy," the guy says.

When I was a kid in Boy Scouts one of the scoutmasters had a wife who'd often go with us on trips. She was one hell of a tough old bird and on some trips we'd eat out at a restaurant. She would calculate what everybody owed down to the penny, and she would make sure everybody paid exactly that, not a penny more or less. She would make you sit with her and watch her go over her figures, and I remember her standing in line once for five minutes to get five pennies for a nickel so she could give us exact change.

What a PITA she was. I wish there were a lot more like her.
