I just got back here to lower Alabama from trip to Ft.Knox,KY where I attended my son's graduation from basic training. He was one of three young men in the company to be awarded as outstanding graduates. He scored 355 out of 300 on his P.T.test.The other young men were best overall and best marksman.I am so proud of him I can't hardly stand it.I am worried as to what lies ahead for him,as any father would be,but his decision to enlist and serve his country as I did was important to him.He is now at Ft. Jackson for A.I.T. to become an administrative specialist. He really wanted to go into Aviation,as I did,but his color-blindness prevented him from doing so.I am sure now that he will be successful in what ever challenges he undertakes.Watching my son take a large step towards manhood really got me,know what I mean?Anyway, thanks for letting me crow a bit.

Well, he certainly got the right job if he wants to take college classes while he's in the Army. The Army will pay for 75% of his tuition for any coursework he takes during night and weekend classes and that won't even touch his GI Bill benefits.

Most changes in children are so gradual they seem to go un-noticed, I had the same feelings when my son graduated from Army basic....he matured faster than I had ever seen. That was several years ago, he'll be commissioned this Friday....one proud papa here!

Congratulations, and please tell him "thank you" from me. He's doing an important job and--like most people who work for the government--don't get thanked enough. PS Have him keep taking those classes. Education is the key to a better and more prosperous life!
