We've got guns and ammo at Massachusetts Walmarts, but if you buy a gun, ammo, or a knife, from the sporting goods counter, there is a big sign saying they must escort you out of the Walmart after your purchase.

That's sad. Even here in Kalifornia Wally World sells guns and ammo. They escort you to the front door of course with a gun, but set you free at that point. My last couple guns I've bought at a local gunshop. A small gunstore that can certainly use the business more than Wal Mart. The guy is knowledgeable, friendly, has the coffee on always and is a fellow hunter/shooter. I'll still buy things at Wal Mart, but feel better in the long run supporting the Little Guy.

I worked at WM from 1988-1991 and it was company policy that all guns be carried to the front door by a manager. Even if employees bought a gun they had to be escorted to the front by a manager. But our store carried it one step further...you could not buy a gun and ammo at the same time. The gun purchase was made and carried to buyer's vehicle and then if they wanted ammo they had to come back in and purchase it. The local WM here did not stop selling guns or ammo following the terrorist attacks last week.
