final value fee whiners

Come on guys, you are making money on these sells. Pay YOUR fees! Dont pass them off as added cost to the buyers. Thats the problem with American business today, nobody wants a cut in profit, they just pass it off to us.Selling you a place to sell your items is the business of this site, so you should pay a fee to sell. We the buyers should not have to pay your fees on top of the bid we win.(Plus shipping and FFL receiver fees and every other fee that can be tacked on). If you dont want to pay, dont sell. And yes, I wont bid on items where the seller wants me to pay his fees.

I don't know about everyone else, but I just bump my prices to account for the additional cost when I list an item for sale, if the buyer wants to pay my starting bid price, fine if the bid goes up, the fee does too ... but anything after the starting bid is additional profit anyway. The buyer can pay it but why tell them?If your saying the selled wants you to pay his final value fee after the sale ... IMHO thats not a good business practice, why would anyone do that?????

Kimberkid, I have no problem with the way your doing it, I am saying that some sellers ARE stating in their auctions that an additional 'final value fee' will be added to the winning bid, plus other fees. They should do it like you are, the fee is still there, but not the contempt for the buyer(or is it the arrogance of the seller). eBay and AA have final value fees and you dont see sellers making this statement there. Again, I apologize for complaining. Its just a turn-off when I see another fee I have to pay.bid + shipping + receiver + final value =

I dont think I've ever seen that anywhere, including here. Anyone doing that isn't using good business practice. The final value fee is a cost of selling. Anybody in the retail business should know that the cost of business is factored with the cost of inventory, and the selling price is figured after the total net cost.

boots62As a buyer as well as seller, I can understand your frustration. I didn't mention I do charge an extra 3% for credit cards through PayPal, however that is a convience for the customer, no M.O. fees, no trip to the post office or stamps/envelops and he/she gets next day shipping ... and its the buyers option, not something I force on them ... ... Like you, I don't think I'd buy from a seller that wanted me to pay a seprate fee for him to sell ... if he sprung it on me after the auction I know I wouldn't, even if I got negitive feedback for it ... obviously some sellers aren't using thier head!

Sort of like a live auction with a 10% buyer premium, ain't it?I never liked buyer premiums. Keeps you having to mentally figure how much you are REALLY bidding when you are trying to bid.Absorb it and go on.

When you buy in a real-time auction, typically there's a 10% "buyer's premium" tacked on. Here it'w what, 5% at most? Sounds like a good deal to me. Like Kimber, I just add the FVF (+/-) to the opening bid & forget about it. I expect/need to make $X on a given item. The FVF is an added cost, so my prices are $X+FVF and like Kimber, I charge 3% if someone wants to use PayPal. I don't think I'm unreasonable and if a buyer thinks so, he/she is welcome to shop elsewhere w/ no offense taken on my part.
