Obviously by now we all know who the veterans and the rookies are around here. What I want too know is how many posts you need per each level. Right now I am a new member, nothing but infantry. how long/ how many posts will it take till I get my next star? How many posts per level?

lets all be responsible! shoot a criminal!

Those stars do not tell you that. They tell in some cases who talks the most.

The stars, earned at 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 2000 posts do tell you only who posts the most. Of 234 pages of members, those who have posted 500 or more times, can be found on the first two pages. There are over 100 pages of people who have posted once or never. We should probably hear from those folks. That said, some of the most loquacious are also pretty knowledgable.

One thing I've noticed is that since the stars were introduced, a lot of people I've never seen before have been posting. I think it was a great way to get people more involved with the forums. Now if I could only get used to the set up and stop reading the same threads over and over...

Well I'll tell you Shootist.30-06 has been around forever on this forum and he only has 3 or 4 stars. He doesn't talk much but when he does everyone should listen because he know his stuff both inside and out. I wouldn't attach too much significance to the stars....we all have areas of expertise and areas which we are found wanting. I really enjoy reading the LEO stuff because I don't do it but I find it really interesting. It usually works that a few people have knowledge in each area and they can enlighten those of us who don't. Beach

Come on beach, everyone knows it's all about the Stars!
In fact you posted just to work on your 'Advanced Member' status, come on, admit it!

    Sing with me everybody...

Simian....are you going to plate that Jennings of yours with Gold when you attain that status? Beach

P.S. Does this count as a whole message? If it does you get an idea of the difficulty of obtaining stars. Beach

The stars mean about the same thing as the National Defense Service Ribbon, which has been awarded every service member since 1950. Stars are meaningless since any one who can avoid being barred can post any number of nonsense messenges to get them. C'mon Admin, knock this nonsense off.

Fella's I have been here longer than most...Its not how many times you say it...its what you say. Gotta agree with Beach...stars are not a measure of worth or literacy or for that matter good looks. You are known by the tracks you leave. regards swede

I wish you'd all realize that stars aren't that important to some people...

The way I see it, if an 'advanced member' has five stars, shouldn't a wrinkled member have six? Lets be fair about this.

ladr has it right. Stars don't say anything about how knowledgable a person is. There are a few people with a lot of stars who seem to post misinformation consistantly, and others with just a few post who are consistantly right. And it's no less childish or a waste of space and memory to post something just to "hear" yourself talk than it is to get stars, particularly when the information is bad.
