BUYER PAYS SHIPPING

I won a gun in an auction last night(actually after I went to bed, found out this morning). The auction says 'buyer pays shipping' as do most auctions unless the seller states a set amount. Ihave bought many guns through this and other auctions,(did I let the cat out of the bag?)and never paid more than $25.00 shipping. The seller e-mailed me for my address so he could calculate shipping. I sent my info and went to work. Today I get home to an e-mail that says that UPS shipping is $74.00. I also told him that he needs to send positive proof of ID for my FFL. He says that that is.. strange.I sent E-MAIL , UPDATE to follow.

Fishy. The most I ever charged in shipping was $79.00, but that was UPS Next Day Air Early AM on an Armalite AR-10 from Texas to California (buyer's request on the shipping, he gladly paid the bucks).

I didn' ask for next day. If I had, I would gladly pay the rate. Now you got me thinking, wonder if that's the price he asked for. We'll see. Ididn't mean to pi$$ him off with my reply, and I THINK I was Kinda cool. I'm talkin a $750 gun. I really want it, but I just ticked at the $

Shipping is something I always look at prior to bidding. If a fixed amount and I feel itis to high I pass the item up. If it's buyer pays actual cost, that's ok. But when it's open ended i.e. "Buyer pays shipping" I will email the seller with my zip and we will establish shipping cost before I bid.

You better watch out for the "Buyer pays actual cost" line, too. Show me an actual figure if you want me to bid.Sometimes, "actual cost" means the actual cost to drop the item at the local Pack & Postal, and paying them for the box, padding, labels, tape, labor, and shipping.I got a bad feedback on eBay because I refused to pay $140 to ship a television.I put an actual shipping figure in all my auctions. If I miss it by a buck or two, no big deal, but at least you know up front what it is going to cost you.

Just sent a 60+ lb. item UPS, which I sold on Ebay. Cost me $19.52. Cost the buyer the same.
