The Traffic Stop: Makes You Think

Traffic Ticket Take a minute to read the whole thing..you will be glad you did!!! Jack took a long look at his speedometer before slowing down: 73 in a 55 zone. Fourth time in as many months. How could a guy get caught so often? When his car had slowed to 10 miles an hour, Jack pulled over, but only partially. Let the cop worry about the potential traffic hazard. Maybe some other car will tweak his backside with a mirror. The cop was stepping out of his car, the big pad in hand. Bob?.... Bob from Church? Jack sunk farther into his trench coat. This was worse than the coming ticket. A Christian cop catching a guy from his own church. A guy who happened to be a little eager to get home after a long day at the office. A guy he was about to play golf with tomorrow. Jumping out of the car, he approached a man he saw every Sunday, a man he'd never seen in uniform. "Hi, Bob. Fancy meeting you like this." "Hello, Jack." No smile. "Guess you caught me red-handed in a rush to see my wife and kids." "Yeah, I guess." Bob seemed uncertain. Good. "I've seen some long days at the office lately. I'm afraid I bent the rules a bit-just this once." Jack toed at a pebble on the pavement. "Diane said something about roast beef and potatoes tonight. Know what I mean?" "I know what you mean. I also know that you have a reputation in our precinct." Ouch. This was not going in the right direction. Time to change tactics; "What'd you clock me at?" "Seventy. Would you sit back in your car please?" "Now wait a minute here, Bob. I checked as soon as I saw you. I was barely nudging 65." The lie seemed to come easier with every ticket. "Please, Jack, in the car." Flustered, Jack hunched himself through the still-open door. Slamming it shut, he stared at the dashboard. He was in no rush to open the window. The minutes ticked by. Bob scribbled away on the pad. Whatever the reason, it would be a month of Sundays before Jack ever sat near this cop again. A tap on the door * his head to the left. There was Bob, a folded paper in hand. Jack rolled down the window a mere two inches, just enough room for Bob to pass him the slip. "Thanks." Jack could not quite keep the sneer out of his voice. Bob returned to his police car without a word. Jack watched his retreat in the mirror. Jack unfolded the sheet of paper. How much was this one going to cost? Wait a minute. What was this? Some kind of joke? Certainly not a ticket. Jack began to read: "Dear Jack, Once upon a time I had a daughter. She was six when killed by a car. You guessed it -- a speeding driver. A fine and three months in jail, and the man was free. Free to hug his daughters. All three of them. I only had one, and I'm going to have to wait until Heaven before I can ever hug her again. "A thousand times I've tried to forgive that man. A thousand times I thought I had. Maybe I did, but I need to do it again. Even now. "Pray for me. And be careful. My son is all I have left. Bob" Jack turned around in time to see Bob's car pull away and head down the road. Jack watched until it disappeared. A full 15 minutes later, he too, pulled away and drove slowly home, praying for forgiveness and hugging a surprised wife and kids when he arrived. Drive safely and carefully. Remember, cars are not the only things recalled by their maker. Pass this on -- you may save a life. Maybe not, but we'll never know if you don't try.

In Seattle hardly a week goes by that a speeding cop car doesn't maim or kill somebody.Guess we could all take a lesson.

Quite to take seriously...many times we may say "It will never happen to me" untill it happens ,it may be easy to say "Take the hit" if its an animal on the road but a human being is first than any car value or time agenda we may have ...life may be a racebut races are for race tracks not for public roads ...drive safe....stay to within the limits .

Ok you want to get serious? Most of you have heard me yak about driving truck. Like the other truckers on GB I can tell you many horror stories from the road. I spen alot of time on interstate highways and I see an awful lot of "dumb" driving. I speak with experiance when I tell you that speed kills. We all like to cruise every now and then but think about that 4000# car you are driving hitting something. Imagine the destruction of hitting a car or truck head on at 75mph. Ive seen it. It aint pretty. I'm only 31 years old and never served in the military, never worked in a hospital or on an ambulance crew and never as a cop but I have seen enough dead people to last me a lifetime. One comes to mind, A car full of teenagers lost it on a turn ,slid sideways across the road and hit a car t-bone style right in front of me. The police said the speed was around 65-70mph at impact. I stood there and stopped the driver from exiting the car, he had a broken neck and was trying to get out. the passenger was all busted up and kept screaming at me and the other people that was there to help, we couldnt do a thing. We stood and watched as the 15 year old boy in the back seat died. I dont want to see that again. I have seen people run over by cars and killed, Not long ago I witnessed a man run in front of a tractor trailer I was behind, not pretty. I can tell you stories all night but I dont want to think about them all because it is upsetting. Drinking and driving, I had that one hit home with my son who was 8 at the time, got hit by a drunk driver at 1:00pm on a weekday, laid in the hospital for a month,3 days on life support and we were faced with the question, we chose to hang on and he pulled thru, thank god. Here is a quick list of things people do that bother me, tailgating, passing on the right, cutting off traffic, speeding up to an exit from one of the left lanes and then cutting over to exit at the last second. Why do people do that? Are they afraid that someone may get to the ramp ahead of them? Trucks! here we go! What is the matter with people when they get around a truck?! You would not believe the STUPID crap people do around trucks. Let me tell you something, trucks in all but 3 states are allowed a gross vehicle weight of 80,000#'s.some states allow more than that, michigan allows up to 90,000#'s unpermitted! Imagine how heavy 80,000# is. Think about it, eighty thousand pounds! how much does your car wiegh? suv's weigh in between 4,000 and 5,000#'s. it would take around 18 ford explorers to make on truck. now Why do you cut off trucks????Imagine what 80,000#'s will do at 65mph to your little Cavalier! Dont mess with the trucks, dont pass on the right because we cant see you over there and you may get squished. Don't tailgate, most trucking companies run recaps on the trailers, ever see what a tire cap will do to you if it goes thru the windsheild? Please, I can preach all day and night. Just be carefull, slow down and think what can happen to you if you or someone else goofes up. Most people drive like they have blinders on and dont look around them to see whats happening, get an advantage and follow a rule truckes follow, know what is going on around you at all times, have fun guessing what the guy in front or in back of you will do next. If something happens it will happen quick, just as you practice and decide what you will do if a burglar breaks in practice what you will do in a traffic emergency, watch out for the other guy and let the passenger play with the radio. Have a safe and happy new year and remember, most cab companies give free rides to drunk partiers on new years.
