Over the years gun manufacturers have come up with some unique marketing innovations and "Gimmicks". Marlin has it's "Microgroove" rifleing, which is roughly 12 lands and grooves as opposed to the traditional 6......"Gimmick"?, or does it really out perform conventional rifleing?Dan Wesson uses a barrel shroud that locks the barrel at two points, (muzzle and breech), sort of like stretching the barrel by threading it at both ends....theory is that it eliminates harmonic whipping effects found on other manufacturers revolvers. results, more accurate than it's competitors. "Gimmick", or does it really make a difference?Glock...has the ability to shoot under water...marketing "Gimmick", or is there an application for this? There may be others, feel free to add them to the discusssion...just curious what your thoughts are....

Belted magnums, gimmick.Fancy sales terms like, Ultra, Short Magnum, but you can bet they will be here to stay-not a gimmick. The phrase"Most Powerful ******* in the World". Gimmick-always becomes overshadowed in 10yrs. or less.Moly,Blue stuff,Black stuff, whatever coating color you care to name-Gimmick.Cleaning rod chamber guides-Gimmick, just get a muzzle protector and dont drown your gun in cleaner, I stick a cleaning patch in the chamber to catch any excess. If you're not lazy, just disassemble the darn gun and clean it right.
