Would someone explain to me what the meaning of the term-"Land of the free" means? America-the land of the free! What means-Free? Free from what? If I don't pay taxes, my land and home will be taken away. If I don't pay income tax- I go to jail- maybe for life! If I don't have car insurance- I can't drive. I cant drive a car/truck without an inspection sticker. I cant add a shed to my back yard with out a permit. I cant change my yard grass without permission. I cant fish without a liscence. I cant shoot food (deer) without a liscence. I cant exist without a social security #. The list goes on and on- Am I free?= Not!!Compared to other country's- yes we are blessed. But to use the term-FREE- is wrong and should be changed to controled freedom! Also- please quit saying the United States runs on Democracy- We ARE A REPUBLIC! Thanks for reading this! I've had my say and I'm O.K. now!

A direct result of too much Government.Of course we need a Government. But if they don't make up laws(no matter how ridiculous or freedom restricting) they are out of a job. Making up these laws is nothihg more than Job Security.

Every time a new law is passed, freedom is curtailed. People talk about the importance of bi-partisan politics. Hell, I LOVE gridlock! It means that people aren't selling out but are standing up for what they believe in come hell or high water. It means that fewer stupid laws are being passed. America is the "Land of the Free" when Congress is in recess.

Daddo- I have the same exact feelings you expressed whenever I see GW talking about how our enemies hate us because we are free. We are free!!?? I dont think so.

Benjamin Franklin said(I'm comming to respect this historic figure more everyday)"Thoes who will give up long term freedoms for short term security, deserve neather freedom or security". Does anything happening today sound like that?

would you all vote for me if i ran on a ticket to remove[cancell] 85% of the laws on the books???? i understand there are over 3000 laws regarding guns and shooting? every year congress passes over 2000 new laws. how many does that make over our 200 year history? how many are obsolete? how many are enforced?how many more are we going to put on the books before we start taking some of them off????????/ carl
