You're right. I would do exactly the same on a particular item that I really wanted, especially over as small an amount as 10-50 bucks. It's the real gougers and opportunists I can live without.

I try to keep my auctions as simple as possible for that reason - pic, description of item, what forms of payment I accept. A lot of the excess rules only make the poor readers give up. Most of the rest of it can be handled by the "Ask Seller a Question" link anyhow.

I used to work near the top of the Disney company, as Admin Assistant to the VP Strategic Planning. Their business principles toward customers were outstanding. I tend to use their thinking in my own business practices. Make the customer's experience with you the "happiest place on earth." There's an old Total Quality concept called "Delight the Customer." It means, don't EVER dissatisfy a customer, don't even merely satisfy a customer -- EXCEED their expectations and Delight the Customer. This is what I go for, and sometimes I get way too high and mighty about expecting everyone to act the same way toward me. Even Michael Eisner, Disney's CEO, used to say that after all the TQ seminars are over, if you are delighting your customers (rather than just making advertising claims) you are probably still ALONE in your market.
Whenever I read a letter in a gun magazine thanking a gun-industry company for taking unexpectedly great care of them on a problem, I am reminded how well this philosophy pays off.
What I CAN do on an auction and what I SHOULD do are two completely different things -- to me, anyway.

Just recieved a package form this auction cardboard box bubble wrap and styrofoam pellets shipped all the way across the country and charged $5.00 this is what the true cost should be. most people on the auctions make an extra few bucks on shipping if it seems to be to much dont buy it
Guns & Glass: Gunner said it for me, thanks ! How many time have you guys had a item cost more to ship than what you charged? I just had that happen to me this week, I had answered a WTB add here on GB, guy wanted a scope I had, told him I could ship priority mail for $5 ended up costing me $8.96 ie priority mail, delivery confirmation and insurance , thats the way it goes some time
I asked about a "form" because if any one including the local USPS is doing any amount of shipping a 1508 will be used.
I will stand on the Registered as there was a non descript paragraph that spoke to the issue.
Don't get me wrong, I will be glad not to pay the cost if not required, a matter of being wrong vs higher profits thru lower costs is ok with me anytime.
Still looking, but hope I'm wrong.
While I see your point, as a seller I give an estimate of actual shipping cost when I ask for payment, so if it costs me a buck or two difference it doesn't cause my profit to vary more than a fraction anyway, which is worth it to me in customer satisfaction. I don't need to know what I'm going to make right to the penny -- until the transaction is over. I just hope I'm good at estimating my shipping, so it doesn't vary wildly from my own estimate.

Offeror: sorry i was not trying to whine, I was just trying to make the point that not all sellers charge more than they should, guess I need to learn how to write a better sentence.
Guns & Glass: I'm just trying to pass on what my post office showed me, I am in no way a expert on the subject, it would be nice if are government could agree on the rules from area to area or state to state wouldn't it?
I ship on eBay all the time.I ship everything i can USPS Priority Mail. The quicker it gets there the better.I charge $.75 to $1.00 over shipping cost to cover misc.shipping items, and gas.I never will be rich, but then nobodys ever complained.

How would you rather die, 10,000 foot pounds of muzzle energy in the BUTT or a sharp knife in the HEART?
