A contaminated tunnel in a shuttered plutonium processing facility collapsed. There is a risk of wind blown contaminates which with plutonium is obviously something that needs to be watched, but this is not, was not, and has no possibility of becoming, a meltdown.

I copied and pasted the headline from that site. Can you say, "Sensationalism"?

I've been out there in the past. It's quite literally in the middle of no where.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

But this is a reminder that I need to get a battery for my Geiger counter.

Technically there is a possibility of meltdown. I remember years ago when they were shutting down Rocky Flats in Colorado. There was some amount of uranium trapped in the ducts that they were trying to figure out how to clean up. They couldn't just flush it out with water because uranium (and plutonium) will start to fission when a critical amount comes in close proximity. What made it worse is that using water would actually create a neutron barrier that would effectively reduce the critical mass needed for fission to start. The process would still generate tremendous heat (just not an explosion) that would start melting the floor, ground, etc...

We have manufactured some equipment for the clean-up efforts over the years. Some of it is used for a matter of hours and is then buried because of contamination levels.

They bury excavators and dump trucks constantly as they become too radioactive for operators to use.

It is a true mess with billions being spent every year to clean up and there is really no end in sight.

If there was a "Chernobyl Event" out there they would have evacuated Yakima (where I live) and the Tri Cities area. No radiation was leaked. Just a tunnel collapse.

Too bad we must store nuclear waste onsite at the reactors, since Yucca Mountain was shut off by The Big Liar & Harry Reid.

Some day, some where, there is going to be a meltdown in the US. Equipment wears out, stuff breaks, & people mess up.

I looked out my back door this afternoon and all the corn in my field was popping. I wonder what that means ?
