Let me tell ya'll of the * of the world. This place is 40 miles from water and 4 feet from hell(straight line distance). This place gets hooter than 2 squirrels doing you know what in a closed mailbox and it's hard to find a tree to pee behind because there aren't a whole lot of 'em. There's more dirt here than anywhere else in the world except Yuma, AZ. Go back, save yourselves, it's to late for me!

Spent my whole tour there, 1st at the C/E schools and then on the third tanks ramp with delta Co. 3rd aav's. That place may suck at first but after a while you'll love it. 938 sq miles of live fire ex. I never put a bfa on my sixteen! Volunteer for as much field time as you can get, thats where the fun is. Be a hard charger, meet guys with other units if you can ask you can go help them. In the three years I was in the fleet I fired every weapon they had except a tow. It was awesome. Go to the PX and get a .22 or a .223 and go out by the monument on the weekends (when home) and blow up jackrabbits. When I was thier I lived in town. My house backed into the monument and we shot every night. I know that being a bit**ing and being a jarhead are synonomous but make the best of a situation and you'll walk away better. Semper Fi Mac

This is my second tour here and i know what you mean about the rabbits. I used to live out on Mojave rd where the asphault place is. Me and my buddy used to sit on the roof at night and bust coyotes and rabbits. There's a range on Pinto Mt rd and i shoot there a lot. If there was deer here it wouln't be so dang bad. No trees would mean easier to see them rascals. But no deer, not much happiness in my book.

My first trip to here was in 94 with 3/7. We did the Okinawa thing and came back. I moved from the infantry to airfield services and ended back here with MWSS-374 out at the airfield. (Camp Wilson)

First time I went through there was in 1954.I still pass through every few months on myway to Laughlin. Only change I've seen is that they now have a McDonalds. Last time I went across I got stuck behind a convoy ofwhat must have been at least 20 armored cars.

I spent about 4 years of my eight out there. I hated every minute of my first tour. When I returned and was permanent personnel in C and E, I started to like the place. I grew to like the desert so much that I now live in Bullhead City, AZ. Give it a chance out there. With the right frame of mind you will soon learn to hate plants and trees.

I spent a lot of time in California deserts learning to be a geologist. I developed a healthy respect and a certain fondness for the central Mojave and Death Valley. I can understand that it would be tough to live and work there - especially as a serviceman, but you may be able to find some comfort in the recreational opportunities the area has to offer to the shootist. My brother is also stationed at 29 Palms. I don't know his unit designation, but he is a Marine seargent named Holcomb and his wife just gave birth to my new nephew. Hang in there and try to find the good parts - a lot of us appreciate what you are doing!

AHHHHHH, relief! I get to go to Camp Pendleton for a month to get smart at the Staff NCO Academy. I sure do love the climate. If only Kalifornia still had that freedom stuff I could live at Pendleton the rest of my life.

I spent a little more than a year there as you know Will. I was with 3rd tracks too Reedbuster. I was there with 2nd platoon from Jan 86 to Apr 87, Gunny Hamilton was the Platoon Sgt, It seems like the Platoon C.O. was Lt Croce and the Company C.O., who was that, Maj Knowles? A few guys I recall Sgt Diaz, Pvt Diaz, Pvt for life Dacruz, Pfc Porter, Heck of a good time.

If you gotta be stationed somewhere Pendleton is as good as it gets climate wise and there is tons to do locally.
