Bizzaro world (ammo prices)

Found an auction here for 500 rounds of 30 carbine for the low low price of $500.00. For those keeping score at home, that's $1/round.

Over on another, nameless, site, you can get 500 rounds of 308 LC ammo TRACER for $400 and change. That's 80 cents/round.

The market will bear what the market will bear, but it seems like people have lost all sense of proportion.

I'm amused by how many 1000 unit boxes of small rifle primers I've seen going for $75-$100.

The last 5000 I bought last fall cost me $22/thousand.

.223 shooters with conversion kits in their '15's help explain part of the .22 shortage at that price for primers, and comparable prices for .223 ammunition.

Other than spur of the moment small buys on random stuff I see around, I stocked up the last two or three years. Last big buys were just before the Big Scare.

Watching all this panic based buying with some amusement, some bewilderment and a whole lot of "What the hell are they think'n???"

308 going for $1 a round? I have a 300 round can of boxes mayla 7.62x51 I might be willing to part with when it reaches $330.

I just sold 800 rounds of 9mm for $300 that I bought yesterday for $250 for the 1000. So I got 200 rounds and a Grant for my trouble. Works for me. Oh and I got $5 cabela points for the purchase too! 1% back on my credit car, another $2.50, i get a feedback, maybe, if the noob leaves it. This is almost as much fun as monopoly.

Didn't you offer that to a noob for $.06 over cost @ $299.99?

The numbers don't seem to work, but perhaps I was mistaken.

The madness has even hit air rifle pellets. Price them at the stores now.
Is there any way to make pellets for yourself? Are they made in molds or are they swaged? Could you use shotgun pellets & if so what sizes?

Different noob. I forgot to raise the price. How do the numbers not work??

    Pd $250 for 1000 = .25 ea. Got $299.99 for 800 = .3125 ea. .3125 - .25 = .0625

I may have missed something here(hence my question), but $250 for 1000 purchase price is $.25 per round, and $300 for 800 is $.375 per round. That's $.125 over cost, without shipping or taxes if applicable, but not $.06 over cost. Can't have 200 rounds and a Grant left if taxes and shipping have to be added, and if not, then the markup is nearly $.13. I think you divided $250 by 800, not $299.99. It was not a criticism, I was just noticing the numbers because numbers are what I work with. Sorry if I had another brain fart - it goes with the age sometimes.

You caught me. I was dividing the purch price by 800 not the sell price. Damn it. Thx for catching that. I guess I figured .0625x800=$50 + $250 = $300.

    I see the problem.

No insult intended, I'm just fixated on numbers and enjoy working them.[:)]

I really have to wonder if more than about 10% of gun owners are really paying those prices.
