handy gun "case" for the woods

Probably you are like me in the woods. Just have to stay as late as possible and come out in the dark (Same for going in early). The rifle has to be cased ... but what do you do with the case while you are hunting? Here is my solution. I cut the legs offf an old pair of pants (Corduroys work best.) and sew then together in the middle. Sew up one end and put a draw string in the other. When it gets cold I use my "gun case" as an extra scarf. I take it off when walking out of the woods and case the gun when hunting is over. Perfectly legal and warm! (Fits over a scope, too.)I gave one as a Christmas present, too.Bonne Chasse!

Where on earth do you live where you are required to have your gun in a case after legal hunting hours.

If they catch me in the woods after dark with a loaded gun... then I must be '* hunting. What happens if you don't leave the woods. I been know to take a tent and stay a week.Guns don't get unloaded till you take them out of the truck at the house.

Oh, by the way, the house where I hunt, not where I live. No driving on roads, just woods trails.

What if that 12 point buck comes out while you got your gun in your pants? Or maybe I should have said weapon.

I live in New Brunswick ... and that is the law up here. The gun must be empty and cased before legal hunting hours and after legal hunting hours. Sounds a bit restrictive, but it is a good safety measure.I sure don't want the crazies shooting at me as I walk out (or into the woods) in the dark!I suppose if I were to meet up with a big buck after legal hunting is over, I'd try to make a rendez vous with him for the next morning. I sure would not shoot after hours - that is illegal!Bonne Chasse!

andersk- Why would you consider that a good safety measure? Why not just empty your gun at closing time?

Salzo, the law here in NB calls for the gun to be empty AND in a closed case before and after hunting hours. Or in your home and locked in your cabinet. Kinda strict huh?Off season you cannot even take a high power rifle out of the house without a permit from the police or ranger station; and it can go from point A (your house) to point B. Only exception is if your are a member of a shooting/hunting club which has a shooting range, then you can go to the range being sure to have your membership card with you and your gun empty and cased en route!Bonne Chasse! And keep the law!

Andersk, You mean to tell me there are different firearms laws in NB than ONT? I can't believe you are not allowed to take a hunting rifle out of your house during the summer for target practice without a permit. If that is true, it explains why those nasty Liberals in Ottawa gave your province the jobs that went along with the Miramichi registration centre. When you say keep the law I disagree. I say fight it!Just because something is against the law doesn't make it wrong.DCToronto

I really do not know the gun laws in Ontario. All I can comment on are the laws out here. And I tell it like it is.I knew a hunter here in NB who was stopped by a game warden on the way out of the woods to his car. While talking with the warden, the legal hunting hours ended, and he gave Les an infraction since his empty gun was uncased. It was uncased since the warden stopped him before he could get to his car and the gun case in the trunk! That is what inspired my to make my dual purpose gun "case".Please do not think that the hunters out here are very happy about the registration stuff being done in our province. We are as much against this WASTE as you are! I think I heard it was located here because of a military air base closing, but I could not guarantee that.I sure hope that someone wakes up and smells the coffee before it is too late to finally pull the plug on that gun registration legislation! What as waste and nothing was accomplished!

ANDERSK- Oh it is too late. If all Canadian gun owners agree with you that a ridiculous case law is a good thing-you guys deserve it!

No, NB is not a part of the USA! You might be thinking of NE ... NB is New Brunswick, CANADA. And NE is Nebraska, USA.No big deal!

You can buy cloth gun cases (socks) for $2-$10 that will fold up and can be put in a pocket. Law sounds similar to one we HAD in my area with respect to bows. For a while the string/cables of a compound bow had to be locked or the bow cased before and after legal shooting hours. The law didn't last long. I'm sure yours was written because NB doesn't feel its citizens can be trusted to walk in the woods before or after dark without shooting something. Oh, by the way if you do this right you will have "wear" holes at the muzzle, sights and reciever.[This message has been edited by dakotashooter2 (edited 01-10-2002).]
