Do fire depts. ever use the big round nets anymore ? What about air bags ?

Big round nets WERE used in metropolitan areas, typically 2-4 floors. Above that, will not end well.

Serriously most buildings are designed with multiple egresses these days. Between that and the other options such as ladder trucks they just don't make sense.
