A shot at deer camp?

Drove all the way to Kentucky, hunted hard morning and night for two days. Only see does. So on the last day I stay in the stand thru lunch. Take a nap, wake and at 1:30 there is a bunch of horns out 200 yards, it starts to walk and I hurl a 140 grain. Nothing. No blood, just can't believe it. I never miss,,,

And now I'm looking for a new custom bedded model seven... cause it couldn't have been user error... could it?

Maybe you actually never woke up and just dreamed that you missed. That sounds more plausible than actually missing a shot.

Next to last day in MO. Hear one coming from the neighbors property, hey! it's a buck! Turn and grab the rifle, as he rears up on his hind legs to jump the fence, sight in on the lane.

He lands and veers left instead of going straight, brain says Wait, Wait, trigger finger says Bang. Shot just about a foot in front of him.

Time from start to finish, 10-12 seconds. That's my excuse, still laughing about it all.

During muzzle loading season a few years ago, I was using a custom percussion side lock long rifle. A piece I had shot for many years and a tack driver out to 70 yards or so.

While sitting in a blind at a friends cherry orchard along came the biggest buck I had ever had an opportunity to put my sights on! He was out about 50 yards and was presenting himself in perfect silhouette.

I slowly drew up and took careful aim. Squeezed the trigger and "pop" *#@%! Just a cap fire......no boom!

The buck looked up and just continued to graze. What good luck I thought as I replaced the spent cap on the rifle and quietly re-cocked the lock. Aimed again and "POP".......awwwwww

This time the deer was gone and I just sat there in pure disbelief.

Out of anything better to do, I recapped that gun and just aimed it in the area where he was and "BOOM" go figure!!

I told my friend this story as he had heard the shot and wondered if I had hit what I was shooting at.

Being 3\4 Chippewa Indian he said that my deer had been under the protection of the Great Spirit and it was not his day to die.[:0]

Reminds me of a guy that hunted with my uncle. One day they convinced him a rock was a bedded deer. He proceeded to empty his gun on the rock never hitting it. After the shooting was over the laugh was doubled cause there were 5 unfired cartridges lying on the ground.
