First of all, I LOVE my 10/22 with the heavy target barrel. Talk about a tack driver. BUT...I have seen those carbon fiber .920 barrels out there and the weight difference is very attractive. My question is, are the carbon fiber barrels as accurate as my heavy target barrel? I'll take a heavy accurate gun over less accurate/lighter gun anyday.

Ikethe main difference in the carbon fiber barrels and regular ones is weight and 3" all of the carbon ones I have seen are 17" I put a 20" bull on mine, wish now i would have spent the extra for a fluted one it's a real tack driver but gets a little (LOT) heavy at the end of squirell hunting, a buddy built his the same time as mine and used a carbon fiber barrel, out of a vise no appreciable difference in accuracy but it is easier to hold mine (heavy) still unsupported

With Butler Creek .920" carbon-fiber barrel and the appropriate action work and some tweaking to the barrel-receiver junction and forend bedding, I get 10-rd groups of under .5" at 50 yds.

I put a heavy target bbl from Midway on my 10-22 just before squirrel season started. A friend bought one of the carbon fiber types out of Cabelas. We compared the two and found the accuracy to be about the same. Virtually everyone in camp however said that mine was easier to hold still when pointing up in trees. I guess the added weight helps slow down the back and forth/up and down movement that naturally occurs when we shoot. So bottom line, everyone preferred my heavy bbl, and whe weight isn't that great.
